Me too. If they put a boat lock at the Nueva Street dam, one could travel by river all the way from Pearl to Blue Star. That sounds cool to me.

The Travis Park Church is finally getting some work done, and crews have been powerwashing all of the faces of the Saint Mary’s Church as well (the gift shop and parking lot next to it are supposed to be demolished and turned into a hotel soon?)

The lot next to the Gold's Gym building? This is the first I've heard of this (I think) but that would be a great spot for a building. That whole area needs some action.

Sorry, I meant the Saint Marys Riverwalk Church. Hotel Sul Fiume but there hasn’t been any news since 2023.. I agree, hopefully one day that strip and the lots around Greyhound (which is allegedly going to be bought and demolished as is being done in Dallas and Houston) get some infill.

Saw this posted on HAIF today. Not sure if it's an update or not though. Permit says start 1/25. Retail additions will be nice as well.

Innjoy Hospitality is planning to convert the former 24-story Nix Medical Center into a mixed-use development with apartments, condominiums and street and river level retail, according to records filed with the state.

Innjoy Hospitality, conducting business on this project as Innjoy San Antonio LLC, filed a “condominium declaration” that was recorded Dec. 27. Such a declaration is required under state law when establishing a condominium development. The declaration includes creation of a condominiums owners association to establish the rights of future buyers.

The condominium portion of the project, however, is fairly small. The articles of declaration state that the number of condo units will be nine, at a minimum, and not more than 15.

Wow, very cool! One of my favorite buildings in downtown SA, will be exciting to see what the units will look like and have the street level activated.

I agree. And it's smack dab in the middle of downtown. Maybe it will help with getting more people living in downtown, and not just near it.

I've always thought the parking lots on Jefferson between Martin and Travis, facing Travis Park and St, Mark's church, would be a great location for some residential highrises with ground level retail.

Great news! I was just walking by there the other day and thinking what a bummer it was the Nix hospital closed. Hadn't heard anything from this one in so long I just assumed they were regrouping to do a hotel project instead.

1000%. It would help fill that gap in the skyline out and I think it would be a good area to have some buildings with street level retail and have the park in the middle.

Yeah that's why I wasn't sure if the permit that was posted was old news or not. Thought it would be kind strange for 6 year old info to just now be posted on HAIF. Hopefully that's not the case and this project is still a go.

I was hoping there was a plan to integrate the new property into the campus better. Looks like there will be a mild aesthetic upgrade to the crosswalk on Hildebrand, which always feels so incredibly dangerous for students crossing the street there. UIW in general is such a missed opportunity to make an interesting urban campus, everything there is surrounded by parking moats and it looks like the expansion will retain that vibe. Still a neat upgrade for the building itself though of course.

There should be a path along the river under Hildebrand before too long which I bet will get heavy use by the campus. And I couldn't agree more about the parking moats.

New signage for the Gunter Hotel on Saint Mary’s! Unrelated but I wonder what improvements to Tower of the Americas will be made this year with the cosmetics, or how far it would go. Maybe some architectural attachments with guy wires and LED paneling, make the tower more ‘voluptuous’ like the Space Needle or the Guanzhou Tower. At least repaint the antenna to clear up the rust.

It seems the scaffolding is being taken down as the Travis Park Church behind it has been cleaned of the mildew and such (the scaffolding used to go up to the cross) …why do this to the spire? Maybe funding ran out for a renovation or they had cold feet, or work will be done later? In the backside you can see down to the wood behind the tiles and it looks rotted. Puzzling.
