Were you even an adult at the time?

Just pointing out that what seems "idyllic" to a child doesn't necessarily seem the same to adults, if that's what he's trying to get back to. I'm sure we could find elders who wax poetic about their carefree days growing up in the Great Depression.

It seems like a BC Conservative caucus if in power will be extremely unstable. If they win by just a few seats I can't imagine it lasting that long, considering some of the beliefs of the more extreme candidates. It would be like a US House situation with McCarthy.

I'm sorry but the weighting on this new Leger poll is ridiculous. Going from 49.2% of respondents voting NDP and 40% BCC to giving BCC a 3 point lead is kinda crazy. 46% of respondents are 55+, it weights it down to to 42% to match census data, despite me having said earlier that the 55+ voter turn out was 54% of the total votes in 2020 (as is usually the case). Idk, a swing of 12 points is a bit much.

Seems like an overcorrection, but this could just be copium.

Drove through Surrey and the amount of BC Conservative signs around the area is insane. I also hear the BCC has locked down the South Asian vote there as well. I think developers along with the business community have done very well to rally up support from the community. It's almost a grass roots movement to connect with the individuals and assure them that there will be changes in policies

We are a pro-developer and pro-density forum but there are many small developers who stand to lose from the SFH rezoning changes. The majority in the Metro Van area don't want density and want to ensure the status quo.

I highly suspect several NDP "safe zones" to actually flip based on what I've seen on the ground.

A lot of BCC signs I've seen are actually on public right of ways rather than private lots, so it is difficult to gauge true levels of support from that.

one of the BCC has publicly said that vaccines will give you AIDS. The leader of the party also believes in some crazy conspiracy theories.

It could be a weird future ahead.

this election is the most blackpilling election I’ve ever seen.
Trudeau losing federally at least makes sense. But BC has a pretty popular and well liked incumbent who has approval numbers any premier in this country would kill for. But BCers are gonna throw him out anyway?

None of this makes any 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 sense whatsoever. BC, WTF are we doing here?

According to the Globe & Mail the exact claim was: “ Chris Sankey, the Conservative candidate for North Coast-Haida Gwaii, last October shared a post on X that falsely claimed that 74 per cent of people who received three shots of the COVID-19 vaccine now have AIDS. “No Canadian should tolerate this,” he wrote”

This is just so ludicrous it is laughable. As I predicted, skeletons would start tumbling out of the Con’s closet once they were examined more closely.

1) NIMBYs are pissed off
2) Rural BC has largely been ignored and are pissed off
3) Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Sihks are predominately right-wing and hate the LGBTQ+ community and want all SOGI related stuff out of schools
4) New immigrant (India, China and the Middle East) are usually right-wing.
5) Less than 30% of BCers are renters. Majority own their homes. Many are landlords that want rent control gone.

I'm not sure why people are shocked.

BC Cons also have the business community and the elite behind them which can influence many undecided voters.

You forgot #6: people think they're voting against Trudeau.

Immigrants can think whatever they want but only citizens can vote.

What you missed the election where the NDP needed Green support to get over the finish line? If anything they were always a 50/50 unless there was a massive scandal. The only reason they looked safe was a split vote between United/Conservatives.

If you can't convince people to support your government while you control all the purse strings then you are doing something wrong. Horgan at least came across as someone who had a reason to be premier, Eby looks like he didn't get enough sleep last night.

Is it any worse than Selina Robinson accusing the NDP being filled with anti-semites.

And the post was talking about some "theory" called VAIDS which is probably just some hyped up term for all the supposed side effects of the vaccine.

I don't have the time to research the background of the authors/validity but there are papers on this. Some of them say COVID itself might also be the cause.

Of course they can, and they do, but it's not a quick process. Conspiracy theories abound about waves of immigrants voting for certain parties that just isn't true.

It might cause some long term side effects but to say it "causes AIDS" is silly and easily disproved. It's the kind of thing more experienced political machines would pick up on. That why I think Bcasey25raptor is worrying unnecessarily. I don't particularly want the fiscally disastrous NDP to win but I predict that will be the outcome. I just wish that more focus was being on the bad financial path Eby is headed down.

From my own experience in first generation Asian immigrant communities, the conservatism runs deep. I don't think it's a conspiracy theory that the large Korean Christian communities and Vietnamese communist refugee communities and Chinese move-new-money-out-of-China communities and Punjabi farmer communities and Hong Kong authoritarian refugee communities and all the Eastern European communities tend towards a certain degree of economic and social conservatism (or at least anti-leftism).

I even know a few recent Hong Kong immigrants that are openly pro-Trump, for no other reason than him being more anti-China than anyone else.
