A maxed out rebate for 2016 would be a $910.80 income tax credit (a credit against the income tax owed), 2029 maxed out would twice that amount.

ironically, this helps the people earning more than $38K (ish) the most. People making less than $38K will have less of a benefit.

I wonder if spouses qualify? Double the credit if you spouse does not work?

….The government’s news release points to “B.C.’s private sector jobs [being] up by 9,800”. True – this is exactly how much private sector employment increased between July and August, according to Statistics Canada. But broadening out the timeline shows a starkly different picture.

In July, private sector jobs fell by 18,000. So, over a slightly longer two-month period, business payrolls are down by 8,200. Since January, the number of private sector positions has dropped by 11,700. This eight-month downtrend erased the modest gains posted in 2023, such that private sector employment is now back to where it stood in May 2022. Even with August’s positive result, the reality is that B.C. has experienced essentially zero net growth in private sector jobs for more than two years – a fact that isn’t mentioned in the government’s news release….

on this forum, we ask and promote for better hospitals, new roads and bridges, skytrain lines, bigger buildings with utilities, etc.

B.C. NDP vows to help middle-income homebuyers with 40% financing

British Columbia's New Democrats have unveiled a plan that leader David Eby says will help middle-income families purchase a home by financing 40 per cent of the price.

The plan commits up to $1.29 billion per year in financing to help middle-income people buy their first home, while supporting the development of up to 25,000 new units over five years.

A statement from the B.C. NDP said the government would partner with non-profit organizations, local governments, First Nations and market-housing providers to identify land and projects for development.

It said government financing and the use of low-cost land would allow builders to offer units for sale at 40 per cent below market prices, and buyers would need to come up with the remaining 60 per cent.

When the buyer sells their unit, the NDP said the province's contribution must be repaid, plus 40 per cent of the appreciation value of the home.

Seems like the Conservative continue to make big gains in urban BC as Green voters are throwing their support behind them. There is undoubtedly more momentum going for them. Conservative signs are popping up on lawns in Burnaby and New Westminster.

"Basic economics" says that if you subsidize something, you get more of it. The only question is if 25k will be enough to move the needle.
