Can't speak for the PATH because I've never been, but I imagine that an underground system like it would do well to attract night life venues like bars and clubs, as well as some kind of street-food court.

The PATH is incredibly useful not just for mobility but for its use as a secondary shopping mall. Oftentimes, finishing work at 5-6pm makes it difficult to reach a barber shop or a store to pick up a gift. I've also found it practical to bypass construction and avoid panhandlers.

The public realm in Vancouver doesn't really acknowledge our wet climate, generally. Our awnings/canopies are often afterthoughts and do not offer much user protection.

Well said! I can't help but think that those of us for whom the "glass is half full" get a lot more enjoyment out of life.

I think we can all agree on that one.

Commercial Broadway

The escalator replacement on the Millennium line platform is almost finished after about 9 months. However the transfer between the Expo and Millennium lines is about to get a lot worse. The escalator on the older overpass walkway will be closed for a year.

Estimated Timeline: Dec. 2023 to Fall 2025

Work on the two escalators serving Millennium Line’s Commercial platform began Dec. 2023. These new and improved escalators will open to customers Sept. 27, 2024. On the same day, the two nearby escalators serving Expo Line platforms 3 and 4 (near Booster Juice) will close for replacement. The accompanying stairs will also close to ensure the safety of the public and crews throughout construction. The elevator will remain open for those who need it.

Anyone know what is going on with the new-ish elevator at the south side of Brentwood Town Centre? Translink Twitter says it’s closed from August 19 to October 9.

Ah, to replace the temporary overhang seen in this post here? Interesting, as the elevator originally opened with no overhang at all. Wonder what *that* story is 🤔

Maybe rushing to install it (as an afterthought) before it snows?

Just a random thought. Has renaming Patterson SkyTrain ever been considered? It's not a great name considering it's practically INSIDE Central Park. If Stadium/Chinatown could be renamed, I wonder if Patterson/Central Park could be as well.

Might be a good idea. I thought Central Park alone would suffice but Dugald Patterson was pretty integral to Interurban development and Burnaby park preservation so it would be nice for him to remain on the station name.

Several of these (not sure what to call them) were on the platforms at Brentwood Town Centre today. Anyone know what they’re for?

are they linked to the temporary stairs they have added on the roof and outside? those went up in the last two weeks.

Not sure. There were about four of these along each platform, so about eight in total.

Didn’t notice the stairs, but a lot of… something going on on the south mezzanine.

I think they might be replacing hanging lights or repairing/refreshing the public art (hanging panels of coloured glass, which once upon a time had spotlights pointing at them).

The plywood hoarding on the platform is just to keep people away from the scaffolding supports.

Seems like it's spanning the stairs/escalators more than for work on the actual platform.
