Also Shuswap and Kamloops band are the same territory, I see what you’re trying to say but is relatively incorrect..
It was talked about this year in this article: https://www.radionl.com/2024/04/22/tranq...lc-for-ideological-delays-for-approvals/

“We believe the main reason the government has constantly found ways to delay making the decisions has been resistance from First Nations,” argued Fritz. “We need to understand that this is privately-owned, fee-simple in the city limits that has been used for multiple purposes over the last 160 years. It meets every single test to separate it from Aboriginal claim.”

With Sun Peaks, I was there as a kid, waiting in traffic on the weekends while the natives blocked the road. Prior to Sun Peaks being bought by Nippon Cable and expanded they had no issues with Tod Mountain ski hill. Then, with the resort expanding, it was all of a sudden their traditional berry picking land that they can’t live without. There was disruption throughout the village for years. When Much Music Snow Job was there, they would be screaming at people in the village. You can even still see their camp today that they used to shutdown the only road in and out.

I don’t have any article for Tobiano, I just remember the hoops they had to jump through to get that project off the ground. This is not some secret that they do this, and I think it’s complete bullshit.

As for Kamloops Lake once being called Shuswap Lake, who knows, I’ve never heard that. I guess the 2 bands lived in harmony before Europeans entered the picture? Sure, lets go with that. The point was beside my main frustration with government/natives impeding development in this province.

Omg I never really knew about any of that :

I do not understand why the ALR would support TTeS, when it’s not theirs anymore? And since when did the ALR ever care about what the First Nations and what they had to say?
TTes has literally no right to try and claim this land to be theirs again and it doesn’t sit right with me, I know it was Unceeded but why speak up now that there is development to be proposed?
No hate to TTeS but come on..

I always thought the Red bridge would be much better used for street buskers and as a fishing pier or board walk. We need a new crossing that will allow us to save the heritage of the bridge but create something new for years to come.

The Shuswap and the KIB are connected at all. That's why they go by different names, and doing work for both of them... I know that for a fact. The band in Lytton is also the reason the town hasn't be rebuilt. Yes, they interfere but never get called out for it.

Summer new home construction pushes City of Kamloops building permit value past quarter-billion mark for 2024

Residential permits carried the Kamloops building sector throughout the summer.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $253.2 million in permit activity for 2024 as of August — more than double the $121.1 million as of August 2023.

The city has already surpassed the 2023 year-end total, which was $224.7 million.

Residential permit activity is listed at around $153.4 million as of August 2024, nearly triple the $58.6 million during the same time last year. That’s despite the city approving 166 permits so far in 2024 compared to 197 in 2023.

I like the idea to turn the red bridge into pedestrian only. Would be cool to preserve it and build a new one beside it. I went over the other day and pretty sure gravel would be smoother than the asphalt on there now.

Sun Rivers Village Centre is coming along. There's also another foundation in beside this building for an apartment. They had the underground parking done, but wasn't at grade yet. Not sure what it's going to look like.

This is the back side of Canary Lofts. They still havn't started the addition to the original building yet. They have put a couple floors on the old part though. And very surprised the lengths they're going to to save that house. Doesn't seem that noteworthy of a house, but apparently the developer loves it. I believe the new building will be 3 floors higher than this one.

This is what it will look like from the front (columbia St). The picture taken is from the other side. The left side of the building in the above picture, is shown in the windowless, red clad part in the middle of the rendering below. (I think...)

What I find interesting is that the spread of the fire seems to imply that it started mid-span as opposed to what happened the other day where it began underneath one end of the bridge.

So I wonder how long we will be waiting for a new bridge and what the design ideas will be like...

I like this idea :

Built in St. Catharines, Ontario

Crazy how it just caught on fire like a couple days ago. So much for it being a pedestrian bridge.

Has anyone seen this article? https://infotel.ca/inhome/developer-refu...-at-tranquille-site-in-kamloops/it106541 Funny we were just discussing this. I really think City council should be stepping up and swinging their weight for this development. Their claims are completely baseless and need to be thrown out.

Was thinking the same thing when I read that. You would think if the developer has all this proof on and land tiles and history, that the ALR would actually think maybe they should be considering getting somewhere with this development. Cannot have anything nice these days smh

Ya, forgot about that one. Demolition of the old building still hasn't happened.

Got some Tranquille updates the other day. Some didn't turn out that good since I only had my telephoto lens and had to stand pretty far back to get the whole site in.

377 Tranquille in the foreground that Arpa just announced they will be redeveloping, and 346 Campbell Ave in the background under construction.

Just heard that the PAC and Multiplex Ice complex have been approved falling short of the "NO" threshold!

PAC will break ground in 2025, and the Ice complex in 2026.

Excellent news!

So it looks like they’ve gotten approval for the new hotel next door to the Coast hotel.. It was originally an apartment building but they changed plans leading to them having to send another permit

I saw their crane moving just now so it looks like they could finally be resuming again.

Awesome news! Little reminder of what is going to be rising downtown next year! I've gotta say, the alternate approval process is the way to go. These are must have facilities for any city and all referendums do is kick the can down the road and waste money on projects that will inevitably happen.
