I still don't get why this is meaningful criteria to measure globalization:

Quote:
The GaWC examines cities worldwide to narrow them down to a roster of world cities, then ranks these based on their connectivity through four "advanced producer services": accountancy, advertising, banking/finance, and law.

What's funny to me is that Palo Alto is a city of about 66,000 people and ranks with much larger cities.

Interesting that it was listed at all and not included with San Jose. I though these lists went by metro areas.

Yeah, I don't know why Palo Alto and San Jose are separated out. And they're both pretty integrated with San Francisco though the Census Bureau doesn't see it as one urban area for some reason.

The most over-quoted, misused ranking in SSP history. Again and again over the years.

There's also the Mori Foundation in Tokyo, which does a Global Power City Index. Trying to measure too many things from "business climate" to "cultural interaction."

As I've always said, Halifax is nothing if not sufficient. In fact, one might even say "adequate".

Don't ask people not to debate a topic. Just stop making debatable assertions. Problem solved.

Lots of different ways to quantify and measure this nebulous concept, but in general, the usual suspects generally float to the top of most "global cities" lists.

Take them all with a grain of salt, of course, but it's also unwise to entirely discard them out of hand. They each have something to say about the topic, even if none of them are anything close to definitive.

Yeah, it's not like there's no pattern here. It's not just "one random guy's opinion" or more accurately one research institute's analysis.

This is such a superior set of rankings criteria, I think you guys will like this report.

Plus, it uses hexagon charts like only Japanese seem to do. Who reading this doesn't want to see cities visualized like JRPG character stats?

Calgary is Beta+ but Edmonton only "Sufficient"? lol that's gotta burn.

Calgary being ranked above dozens of US cities of similar or larger sizes is also a good lol.

That Kearny list putting not only Sydney but also Melbourne above Toronto is.. interesting.
