^ the TA needs to get ratified first. It’s not a guarantee, as they only got a ~42% compounded pay raise (they wanted much more). Flat pay for juniors is still in place for 2 years (it was 4 years before). The vote might not pass. A lot of unhappy junior pilots right now.

This being said, ALPA has lost their leverage by accepting to send this TA to a vote. Technically, a strike is still possible in a few weeks/months iif they vote no.

YLW expanding and it won't come soon enough. The security and boarding areas are very awkward right now.

Still much more than their initial offer of 30% though. Don't know what the pilot demand, but if it's 50%, then it already is more than the middle ground.

Maybe now AC can finally announce all the new routes they added in the recent weeks?

Is it a recommended offer? At my employer we almost always vote on an offer that the company calls a Final Offer but rarely does the union recommend it, and we 100% of the time in 34 years have had a better offer come through after we rejected it. We've never accepted an offer that wasn't recommended.

I mean a lot of junior pilots have to vote to strike in order to help some yet to be junior pilot coming down the pipeline as most will be graduating out soon anyway. I bet it passes.
Surprise Pilots still aren't paid on par with Americans. Who is? Cops, firefighters, teachers, social workers and I guess a lot of other government workers.

Thank you for posting this. As I've said before, the current WAA upper management and Directors have ambitious plans for growth at YWG, including transcontinental service. It's definitely exciting times ahead.

It doesn’t work like that at my union, and I don’t believe it works that way at AC either. A negotiation committee is elected by the employees it represents, and has the power to say no to an offer, any offer, final or not, if it deems it unworthy to even show to its membership.

Yes, AC bonified it’s offer at the last minute, but a lot of pilots seem to think their negotiation committee shouldn’t have even accepted it. They believe their union leaders caved at the last minute.

Let’s see what happens. This TA, even with a 42% pay raise, will by no means be a unanimous yes vote. I think it will pass, but only by ~55-60%. It will be a very divided pilot group, that’s for sure.

Pac Coastal adding YLW-YKA (will compete with CMA) and adding capacity on YLW-YYJ. Guess these are the result of the CPA with WS coming to an end shortly.

Wish I had saved that page before it went behind a password. Was pretty surprised to be able to see that info out in the open the other day

Does this mean that WS is now allowed to fly scheduled flights to the UAE or is it only through codesharing ?

Quote:
Determination No. A-2024-139
September 16, 2024
Application by WestJet (applicant) pursuant to subsection 69(1) of the Canada Transportation Act, SC 1996, c 10 (CTA)

Case number:
24-49231
The applicant has applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) for a licence to operate, through code sharing, a scheduled international service, large aircraft, in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on Air Transport, signed on June 17, 2001 (Agreement).

The Agency is satisfied that the applicant meets all the applicable requirements of subsection 69(1) of the CTA. The Agency also finds that the pertinent terms and conditions of the Agreement have been complied with.

Accordingly, the Agency issues the licence.

Pursuant to subsection 71(1) of the CTA, the licence is subject to the conditions prescribed by the Air Transportation Regulations, SOR/88-58, and the following conditions:

The Licensee is authorized to operate, through code sharing, a scheduled international service, large aircraft, on the route(s) set out in the Agreement.
The scheduled international service, large aircraft, is to be conducted in accordance with the Agreement and any applicable arrangements agreed to between Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

Westjet has applied for many routes (and received them). They just don’t have the appropriate amount of long range aircraft to fly the routes. Maybe one day they will place another B789 order??

That is probably in relation to its recently announced codeshare plans with VS. DXB was one of the named destinations.

YYC's altitude above sea level negatively impacts the chances of seeing any 13hr+ flights, of which YYC-DXB most definitely is for a Canadian carrier, due to the Russian detour. AC blocks YVR-DXB at 15hr. YYC-DXB on WS would be minimum 14hr for sure. So routes like YYC-SYD or YYC-DXB are not likely, even if WS had additional 787s.

DEN is in a similar situation. They don't have any outbound flights with a block time longer than 12h25 minutes (UA to NRT) for the very same reason.

Noticed some changes to the AC international schedule.

YUL-MAD 4 to 5 weekly
YUL-CPH 5 to 4 weekly
YUL-CMN 6 to weekly
YUL-DUB 3 to 4 weekly
YVR-DUB 4 to 3 weekly
YUL-FRA 11 to 12 weekly
YUL-ATH 10 weekly to 9 weekly (however summer 24 was 10 weekly until mid July, summer 25 seems to be all season.)

I think this part implies that it is permission to sell seats through a codeshare

So there are the 2x YUL-LHR & 2x YYZ-LHR reductions to account for the resumption of YOW-LHR.

A mere 14% and 7% reduction respectively, they’ll live

This is how it should be. For example, YYZ doesn’t need 96 daily flights to California. According to OAA themselves in an email they sent me, the YOW traffic allows them to have multi-daily flights so they should move some to YOW.
