Also note that teachers pensions (like their salaries) are the red headed step child in terms of remuneration in comparison to their siblings in Fire, Police, Civic/Provincial and Federal employers.

Just to point out, not every engineer is making that money! Mostly the go getters that are really good at what they do. Most people are probably in the middle . Maybe there are some stats on how many teachers fit in those categories. And pension is like Drew mentioned. Public sector and the good private sector companies have the traditional pension plans. Otherwise its' RRSP/DPSP programs.

yeah, for sure....that's basically a pension....most private employers don't offer that....they are giving you a lot of money over your career that is no different than a salary.

According to the latest EGM salary surveys, the majority of Engineers in the private sector get some sort of contribution match from their Employers.

It's not a pension. Pensions have defined annual incomes for as long as the person is alive. RRSP/DPSP have a pot of money that you manage, but it is not infinite.

yeah, for sure. It's not technically a pension, but most private employers...especially small businesses don't also give their employees money for RSP's on top of what they give them for a salary. Nice that engineering companies do....no wonder their fees are so high!

It appears that the city's process of speeding up the approval process for new home construction is working?

Of course the houses still have to be built, and as the article states, issues like interest rates and available people to do the actual building are factors that could slow things down, but it seems encouraging.

Housing construction in prairie cities tends to be stronger than other regions. Combination of cheaper land and lower development fees.
