So you’re doing well, very well. Too well.

It’s the inability to admit this that pisses me off, but then if they didn’t constantly complain who would coddle and throw more money at them.

Just like the cops.
You said twice the Canadian household median income. Not you're comparing after tax Manitoba household to before tax teacher salary. Your assertion is wrong.

I am friends with many teachers and I personally agree with you that teachers salaries are inflated over what a free market would dictate, but no need to make up nonsense statistics.

Someone becoming a teacher doesn't solve the issue of certain political parties capitulating to unions leading to over compensation of public roles. A 2015 study showed Manitoba teachers were the best compensated in the country and Manitoba students had amongst the lowest test results. Comparing to similar demographic province of Saskatchewan showed the same thing. Sask teachers were compensated less with slightly better student outcomes.

The vast majority of teachers are class 4 or class 5. As per that table the salaries for most teachers top out around $100k. This isn't life a changing salary. Pretty low range for a professional position to be perfectly honest, and again about 25% less than what typical firefighters and cops make.

Everyone knows what holidays that teachers get. If a certain someone considers that this career offers such a luxurious lifestyle (comparable to a doctor...) - why aren't they a teacher too?

Wow. I wish architects made as much as teachers. Ha ha.

Add a very good pension on top of that. I wish I had one of those.

That's what unions do. Look at police and fire service.

Those teacher salaries really are not out of line from my perspective over here in the professional services area of the private sector. I would say they're very similar to what our rates are.

Letters for the capital grant are coming out as we speak. Our office didn't get it. I was wondering who did. Hopefully, the projects that got it do good work for the community.

I agree, I disagree with his take here and he may be a bit sardonic, but he's a frequent poster and a good contributor here. No need to censor, but if we can get this back on track to construction, all the better.

that's interesting...i guess that's why people don't become architects for the money, ha ha....over a lifetime (including pension) that is probably close to twice the earnings of an architect.

Looking at the class 7, 10 year experience number of $126k. That is definitely in the realm of possibility for someone say in engineering to be making that money at 10 years. And being at the high end of the pay scale, that is normal to me as not everyone is making that money. There are lots of people making less than that, just like teachers.

Min salary of $55k is also about right.

Most jobs don't have a pension - but it also isn't free. It requires a not insignificant amount of after tax contributions.

If you, an Architect or me, and Engineer in the private industry contributed to a group plan or RRSP at a similar rate for a similar amount of time, you would end up with a retirement nest-egg not too far off of a pensioner.

Also note that teachers pensions (like their salaries) are the red headed step child in terms of remuneration in comparison to their siblings in Fire, Police, Civic/Provincial and Federal employers.
