Today's cancellation count (so far): 2 - 1 of which is PAL replacing Jazz to YUL.

Porter looks to have 2x flights every day next week on YYC/YVR, so appears they've re-added a some flights in anticipation of the potential AC strike.

YVR in particular appears to be reaping them benefits.

September 18th, evening flight is sold out and morning flight (which I believe was scrubbed at one point) is $600+. From Thursday September 19-Sunday September 22 both flights are completely sold out (I was just looking ex-YOW).

If the strike does come to fruition, I wonder if we'll see even more capacity added.

I know a lot of people who have bought refundable Porter tickets over next couple weeks for work (there are 7 on my team alone for next week). I am sure Porter is banking on the strike otherwise there will be lots of tickets refunded. They were all fairly reasably priced to boot ($700-$1000, 7-10 days out fully refundable between Calgary/Vancouver and Ottawa).

I am flying WS to YEG in about 45 mins... seat map looked decent on check in, but middle seats were mostly wide open.

Not sure how WS and PD can both maintain YEG at this level through the winter... I sort of understand why AC has yielded this route to them since last year.

Air France cutting some more flights in November shoulder season.

Week of November 10: 5x -> 4x (Wednesday flight removed)
Week of November 17: 5x -> 3x (Sunday and Wednesday flights removed)

Westjet will get the people in Edmonton.
Porter will get the people in Ottawa.

Westjet will also get the people who need to connect past Edmonton (Fort Mac, North etc).
Porter will also get the people who need to connect past Ottawa.

Both should be OK long term even if there are a few weaker months. Westjet will typically cut routes down to 4-5 days a week as well to match demand.

That's too bad and a bad sign. Kind of makes it unusable in a lot of cases. Granted it's only for two weeks. I guess no business travel that week with the Canadian holiday? Pretty gloomy in both places for a leisure trip.

Yes but they are maintaining the 777-200 on the route.

June 2024 DOT numbers. As Porter continues not to file Dash-8 numbers, pretty small dataset.

Porter
MCO: 5562/7316 = 76.0% -- for comparison, their YYZ-MCO flights were 68.3% and YYZ-FLL was 90.1%. Maybe next summer from YOW rather than daily MCO they'd be better off doing a split with MCO and FLL

Jazz
DCA: 3669/4560 = 80.5%

United
ORD: 7417/8344 = 88.9%
EWR: 10135/11468 = 88.4%
IAD: 7442/8500 = 87.6%

UA numbers are good.

For June... the MCO number is pretty positive. I've heard that it sees a lot of connecting traffic. Doubt the route would be here in the summer if it was all O&D.

Anecdotal but I see a fair number of posts on Porter Reddit asking about connecting over YOW to MCO.

This is the new normal now. I just hope YOW can maintains a good reputation for reliable service overtime instead of deteriorate like YUL and YYZ as more and more flights and pax get pumped into the airport.

Perhaps PD can consider doing YOW-MCO 4x weekly and FLL 3x weekly from YOW and the reverse from YYZ (MCO 3x and FLL 4x), giving folks out West and East a connecting option to both destinations each day during the summer. As they continue building out their network, these all can go daily.

PD have loaded YOW-MCO to be daily again next summer. This was an addition after their Florida schedule announcement so they must have been taking a wait-and-see approach and have evidently been satisfied enough to continue next year - and next summer there will probably be 2 or 3 more routes the MCO will connect to/from.

Runway 07-25 closed from Monday September 16 (tomorrow) until Friday September 27: https://www.yow.ca/about-yow/media-room/news/temporary-air-traffic-changes

The runway is required to be closed during construction. All flights will use Runway 14-32, temporarily increasing air traffic over the communities to the north and south of the Airport.

* Replacement of all existing quartz runway edge and end lights with energy efficient LED lights and isolating transformers to reduce our electricity consumption.
* Improvement of our storm water management with the installation of a storm water infiltration bed off the end of Runway 07 to allow water from the runways and taxiways to infiltrate into the native sandy soils.

To reduce the impact to operations, and to neighbouring communities, regular maintenance will be scheduled simultaneously, including rubber removal on the runways and line painting.

Any predictions for where PD's next non stop destination from YOW will be?

My guess is a seasonal YYJ route starting next spring. Here's my reasoning:

YOW is ideally positioned to connect YYJ passengers as YYJ doesn't appear to have non stop flights anywhere east of YUL including major east cost US cities
YOW is arguably a better connection point than YYZ since YOW provides Dash 8 connections such as BOS, EWR, YYG, YQM, etc.
YYJ is the 11th busiest airport in Canada

Took the Porter afternoon flight to Newark last Wednesday. It’s a really smooth way to get to NYC (which was just hopping in the summer weather). Really easy on the Newark end as well.

As for loads, the afternoon flight down on Sept 11 was really light, with maybe 20 people on the plane. Perhaps not people’s favourite day to fly. Counted the people coming off the same flight today and it was somewhere in the low 50s.

Flight back to Ottawa was very full. Maybe 5 empty seats total. Included a family from Connecticut heading to Alaska via Ottawa and Vancouver. (They were very loud). Nice to see connections lining up.
