With tradiitional nightclubs being a hard sell these days, a country bar might be a good alternative given the demand for country music in the Maritimes especially with younger people.

From Linkedin

"The Country Club on The Boardwalk is where southern charm meets east coast hospitality and we are set to open our doors, Fall of 2024. Located on the newly developed multi-million-dollar boardwalk project in the heart of Uptown Saint John.

We are all about country music, dancing, drinks and southern bites. As a hospitality venue we are committed to creating a fun and unique experience for the residents of Saint John and surrounding areas, an approachable sophistication that feels both elevated and inviting.

The Country Club on The Boardwalk is owned and operated by J Scott McCain Sports Entertainment."

Not something that would interest me but it sounds like something that would do well here. I can’t think of any obvious competition.

Considering CHSJ country draws almost 3x more listeners than the next most popular station in SJ - I think it will do well.

The owners of Turkish Big Bite, (located at 533 Westmorland Road), will be opening a new restaurant brand inside the City Market uptown.

Will have a new exciting menu, including fresh Shawarma and Falafel. They've just entered into a lease agreement with the city for Stall #15.

The double and triple cruise ship days have started! Always so cool to see. When there are 3 cruise ships and 2 container ships in port, it makes one hell of a photo.

According to staff at Bayview across the road, upper floors redevelopment work is underway at 56 King Street. It changed hands in Jan 2023. I assume it'll be 6-10 apartments or office space. I sincerely hope they restore the facade on the second floor.

“We decided it was time to leave the Waterloo Village area in favor of a location that was professional and where our clients would feel safe and welcome accessing our services.” Explained Karen Hachey, president of the Board of Directors.

That's a flaming hot burn. Wow.

Very. It’s high time the city and province actually did something to clean up Waterloo Village. Gentrification needn’t be a dirty word. It needs to be the mantra.

I am curious about the apartment building at 108 Waterloo (corner of Richmond). This is a multi-unit building that has been boarded up and vacant for some time. Is there any reason why it is not being renovated and used for badly needed housing in the area?

Because it would be found to be past its ability to be renovated!

Brent Harris feels aside, everything has an economic life. And past that you should consider demolishing and rebuilding.

Do you have knowledge of this particular building? Is it beyond repair?

I don't, but used to walk past most of the buildings there.

The ability of a 60+ year old building to survive being boarded up is negligible.

Imagine the mold. Shrooms. rot. *bleh*

Maybe someone who actually knows something about this particular building can weigh in.

Fair enough.

I’ll bet we’ll get a view in when it gets listed as an unsightly premises.

Not necessarily, I did a big reno in 2020 at 194 Duke that had been closed up, albeit by a conscientious owner who was by frequently, with ZERO issues beyond a little mildew.

This particular one had fire damage over the winter, IIRC. It was listed a little while ago, but who would touch something next to Area 911?
