15C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 21C this afternoon.
Heavy rain and strong gusty winds developing early tomorrow morning as the semi-tropical system that formed a couple of days ago around Bermuda enters the region.
I read something quite interesting on the interweb last evening. The reason why there has been a sudden pause in hurricane development in the Atlantic basin is because the intertropical convergence zone over Africa has shifted a couple of hundred km northward. This is bringing significant rainfall to the Sahara. Because of the northward shift, thunderstorms are no longer coming off the continent in the Cape Verde region. This is the nursery for Atlantic hurricanes.
Fascinating stuff. Another example of the butterfly effect.
