Some more creatures from the past 11 days.
And finally discovered clay in the water for the first time since 2018. Used it for face and body paint, which made for some funny photos. Then next day a tonne of rain after 7pm. Went back two days after that and the sand washed over the clay and maybe it'll be another 6 years before I find clay again.
Spent a couple of days bagging 1,600 lbs of roof shingles into 35 contractors bags and disposing of them at the dump on Friday. That was fun in the sun and heat. Tweaked my back too. Only $59 to toss 1,600 lbs at the dump. Plus $25 + tax for the HD truck rental for 90 minutes and gas. When the roofers were done, they said $1,200 to take away the shingles. We did it for about $150 total. Of course, that doesn't take into account the man hours and labour put into it by the three of us.
Thursday went to Sparrow Lake. One side is Severn in Simcoe County while the other is in Gravenhurst in Muskoka. Town of Severn lists all the free public launches. Just a map with no info about each launch. Show up and there's two docks, but no actual ramp despite there being a parking lot with two signs that say trailer parking. So wasted a good amount of timing trying to figure shit out.
Drive 15 minutes and cross the Trent Severn to the Muskoka side where their free launch has a ramp, but only 7 parking spots. It was Thursday so I was good, but on the weekend, can't imagine how many boats show up only to find no parking. Or worse, they launch their boat but when they go to park beside, the parking spot they saw empty is now filled.
With these small towns, just like when I went to a launch in Bala that was closed and the town's website not updated, they don't seem to want to give too much info or keep things updated. Like they don't want to give away too much info to outsiders and only locals know the deal. But then why even bother posting a webpage with public launches, which outsiders would see?
Anyway, coincidentally, I was talking to my tournament angler cousin about Sparrow as I was driving to the launch. I got there and a guy in a bass boat was coming off. I saw he had the name and logo of my cousin's fishing club on his shirt. He knows my cousin of course as they see each other at club events.
Muskoka is known for all the bedrock surrounding and in the lakes. On the Simcoe side, this wasn't really the case. But on the Muskoka side, sure enough, there's the Canadian Shield, right by the launch.
