The midtown capping project is pretty much dead. They are going forward with the stitch, however. It seeks to cap a portion of the highway further south where it cuts midtown and downtown in twain.

Nice pics, Julien. So excited to see a little facade work on this project. The cranes are becoming more and more visible from various vantage points. I can't wait until the tower is peeking over the tops trees and smaller buildings as you enter the city southbound.

I would have loved for the Midtown cap to come to fruition, but it was a very ambitious project and it came about at the same time as a couple other highway capping projects, such as the Stitch. I still hold out hope it will happen one day, or god willing, the highway is just ripped up and diverted around Atlanta, but for now, we will have to be happy that the Stitch is moving forward.

I wonder if there has been a redesign of this tower. Looking at the renderings, the back of the tower shown here is supposed to have a big set back from the parking garage podium to the beginning of the office component, which would be an amenity level. But looking at this pic, it seems like there is no setback from the parking podium to the office component.

The view here in Juliens photo, which shows the back of the building does not have the set back I am talking about. In all of the renderings weve been shown, you can see a very obvious set back of roughly 1/4 the depth of the building from the parking deck to the office level above.

No set back in the rear as we can see here. There is a small setback on the southern face of the building.

And before someone says this is a side view or something. Both images are a view of the back of the building facing East. Juliens from Spring street and the render from the connector.

There is more being built there. You can see when you walk by. It’s the ramp that was referenced earlier. It will create the setback on the side facing the highway.

Exactly. The existing floors are all flat. A system of ramps will be needed to connect the parking levels to the ground. For what ever reason, they decided to build this after the main structure was complete.

I bet it is crane and maybe site access related.

Or to speed the overall job. Vehicle ramps take more time to build than horizontal floor plates, and can now be constructed alongside the parking decks while the tower continues to climb alongside much sooner than if the ramps had been integrated internally. Time is money, and I'm surprised we haven't seen more buildings designed this way.
