A lifeline? Rumors of RTA's death may have been premature

On Tuesday, the Tucson City Council discussed a compromise meant to woo them back into the fold with the eight other area jurisdictions trying to put two decades of transportation funding to voters soon. The Council also told staff to prepare to call an election for March on a city-only half-cent sales tax to address housing and crime.

I had hoped that Bautista would have the same solid build quality as the various houses and apartments in the Mercado District (i.e., concrete/brick construction). Even solid wood construction would be better than this plywood stuff. It will look great though, and the project fills an interesting location, so that‘s good. Let‘s hope it spurs further projects on that side, the concept is a good one.

I have to say the mass of the structure is really impressive in person. This is obviously adding to the development momentum in the Mercado district and will add more permanent resident juice to the area.

What I didn't capture in the above images is what it looks like from The Loop on the west side of the Santa Cruz River. IMHO this project is going to interface nicely with The Loop and I'll try and grab a few pix to share next time I ride my bike there.

Swallow's promotion means Tucson has first all-female ass't city manager lineup

Kristina Swallow has been appointed as an assistant city manager, in charge of Parks and Recreation, Transportation and Mobility, Planning and Development Services and other departments, Tucson officials said. She'll also oversee the Environmental and General Services, Climate Action, Tucson Development Center, and Economic Initiatives departments.

Tucson looking for feedback on proposal for Sixth Ave underpass

The proposal would rename and revitalize the underpass in honor of Donovan Durban, a big player in many Downtown Tucson staples.

Not the final phase. The 22nd St to Irvington is Phase 7 of this project. They haven't even begun the design process for the final Phase 8 which is Speedway to Tanque Verde which was widened way back in 2011 as part of the entire Eastside roadway improvements. http://www.houghtonroad.info

The 471 W Congress st project is currently going through permits and the most recent one was the water master plan with Tucson water which was approved (June 2024). Not sure when construction would start but I feel optimistic about it happening. The 55 Scott project has been hard to find updates on. The only thing I remember was the meeting in January 2024 where Rio Nuevo agreed to give them complete control and they said time was needed to do a market analysis.

This morning on my bike ride to an avocado toast breakfast at Time Market on University, I delayed my avocado toast gratification a couple minutes and grabbed a few images of The Bautista from low down on The Loop.
