Neglect. Long term owners fighting any thought of Historical designation. There was a deal to save facades. They out-waited that. So, long story short, they got what they wanted. "Fire", time, decay all = long term eye sore.... then demolished. Such great community minded owners I'm sure.

What a loss! Amazing to see these torn down while other stuff gets historical designation. This is tragic. There will be no architectural heritage to pass down in this city that’s worth a damn.

I doubt that is still the plan - especially since it's for an office building proposal dating back to 2010. Hopefully the fire and structural collapses won't affect any plans to rebuild the facades. There are no site plan or permits filed for any project at the site other than demo permits.

Oh, I actually didn't know that there had been a fire and collapses. I thought there were just 🞵🞵🞵🞵 🞵🞵 in some sort of ownership dispute hell.

There are three major ZC items on Tuesday's 08/13 Planning Commission meeting.

Anderson Square - 250' height with four 20-story buildings and five seven-story buildings

200 E. Riverside - former TXDot HQ site has switched from two 400' office towers to two 500' mixed use towers

Royal Crest residential near E. Riverside - 160' towers with 1.1K residential units

Today I noticed on West 6th that Concrete Cowboy has closed and boarded up their windows. Dogwood next door has been closed for a few weeks, and their outdoor bar has now been totally dismantled and removed. Hopefully this signals some exciting news as the property has previously been marketed for a tower development and there are some proposed towers right next door at 506 West Ave and 701 W 6th St.

The same LLC that owns both the Dogwood & Concrete Cowboy sites also owns the 506 West tower site. So maybe we can expect a tower someday but not any time soon. The Dogwood had some remodel permits approved a month ago that explicitly mention the removal of the patio bar. There are no pending permits for the Concrete Cowboy site. But it seems that other bars in the chain have closed. Also, a new bar was permitted earlier this year for the 507 West building next to Concrete cowboy. But I'm not sure if that has opened yet.

Left waiting: Rally Austin pushes for city action on four sites ID’d for redevelopment

The four properties are One Texas Center at 505 Barton Springs Road, the former city municipal building at 124 W. Eighth St., and properties at 3002 Guadalupe St. and 411 Chicon St.

In an interview with the Austin Monitor, Rally Austin representatives said that the organization is waiting for the city to turn over control of the properties even as it moves forward with work to preserve creative spaces.

The likely public-private partnership opportunities for those four sites would be substantially different from Rally Austin’s creative space work, because they would likely create ongoing revenue that could be used to pursue other real estate opportunities in service of creating affordable housing, creative space or other uses prioritized by the city.

An interesting excerpt from a CI article on replacing the Barton Creek Wastewater Interceptor:
