It was Selkirk's CAO, not the Mayor.

He's right about the commuting patterns being comparable (which keeps Selkirk out of the Wpg CMA) but that's largely a result of Selkirk's main employer, the Gerdau steel mill, drawing employees from Winnipeg.

Selkirk also recently pulled out of the Red River planning district a few years back so intermunicipal collaboration definitely isn't a priority for them.

It's funny cause this plan supports bringing commuters to Selkirk and other regional towns, not just funnelling workers to Winnipeg...

So I don't really get their argument

Fuck Selkirk! Lets get out the slant drilling rig and suck all their resources.

The whole thing is big bad Winnipeg trying to take over all their powers. That's what it is.

Perimeter-itis as they say.

I'm no developer, so I'm undecided as to whether the 20-50 plan was something we needed to preserve or not. Is the ability develop properties across municipal boundaries really a deal maker/breaker? It seems like it would have spread out potential developments across a wider area and just in Winnipeg, wouldn't it?

Mentally I'm also comparing this with the unpopular Pallister provincial board that gave itself the ability to kibosh civic projects. Isn't the 20-50 plan something similar, or are we looking at a different kettle of fish?
