Is that your level of comprehension, by focusing only on certain parts of a submission that leads to fit your narrative?

God your comprehension and level of understating such circumstances is insufferable!!

Anywhooooo, the mayor ended up voiding the original contract, which allowed the other party to walk away, which they did. Blame the party who voided the contract! Unless you are O-Tac, then just blame the big bad billionaire!

lol where did you get that from??? By me simply pointing out the mayor voided the contract?!

Harharharhar idiot solar panels is right!!! Who was the idiot that made it mandatory to add that scope after the contract was signed!?

I despise the taxpayer funding so much money to the project, but terms and conditions in a contract are just that, when one wants to add a previously agreed upon scope then then that’s change order that, in this case, voided the entire contract!!

Jesus man

No she did not void the contract. CSEC agreed to cover cost overruns and public realm requirements as part of the agreement. $10 million extra due to new city policy for public infrastructure projects being green (or like 1.5 percent of the deal) was nothing major on a project worth over $600 million.

The reality for anyone with observational skills beyond billionaire cuck propaganda, was that Murray Edwards saw an opportunity to undermine a newly elected progressive mayor and fleece taxpayers with the help of his ally Premier Danielle Smith who offered him $300 million extra for the arena. CSEC went from covering 50/50 and having to share concert revenues, to paying less than 20% and getting all revenues. I won’t argue with you that Edwards is savvy. I’ll argue with you that the outcome was just the mayor’s fault or that said billionaire is anything but a parasite.

But when she decided to add $10 million worth of scope, labour and material had skyrocketed since the time the contract was signed, which would have guaranteed massive cost overruns which the Flames would have had to cover. The mayor gave the Flames an out to the contract by insisting on adding solar panels. How stupid?!?

I fuckin guarantee you if rolls were reversed, and the city would have had to cover all cost overruns, and Flames added to the scope, the City would have jumped ship too.

Was the arena a public, city funded building?

It turned out to be a good thing the first arena deal was canned as we ended up with a vastly superior project.
For that I’m thrilled.

Now hoping attention turns to McMahon Stadium - either a major reno or full replacement.

Two separate projects. I don’t see the Greenline saga turning out any differently than it has even if the arena project didn’t exist at all. Despite adding more money to the Greenline, it was still truncated severely.

The extra amount that went to the arena covers a significant portion of the gap for extending the line to Shepard.

Yeah, the new version is better than the HP OfficeJet Pro. For double the price and increased size and capacity it should be. I am torn between some excitement over the new version as it moves into the construction phase, and the bitterness over how it came to be funded almost exclusively by taxpayers and the brazen bribery during the election.

I once had a shed with the exact same cladding as the black in rendering 2.

How this large building will blend into the urban environment is promising. The finishes are difficult to gauge. Some renderings look really good. Others look a lot less appealing.

Yeah that cauldron angle shows a different shitty finish. I think the elevation drawings and other angles showed a stone finish at the bottom. But based on lowered expectations it could end up looking like that, which would give the appearance more of a leisure centre or community rink than an NHL arena.

Development design for Commonwealth has been ongoing to bring the facility to modern standards and it appears this stage will be complete by September. In the link below I found some information and pictures (scroll down to see Stadium Upgrades, details are subject to change). The differences that I notice are a snaking stadium entrance for crowd flow management, in the concourse there is glazing to replace panels as well as a new colour scheme and there are modern washrooms. I am not sure if there is a new layout in the market concessions based on the picture. Does anyone see any other differences? There are no pictures of the field. In any event, I would like to see upgrades completed to the stadium by 2030.

Still waiting for the new hospital in Edmonton. Just a reminder that the last new one built was the Grey Nuns in 1989. The province said it was too expensive so they cancelled it, but they seemed to find the public funds to build the Flames their new arena. Looking forward to the Province financially supporting the Commonwealth Stadium upgrade.

Hospitals are incredibly complex and expensive to build (let alone operate and maintain).

The last thing any government wants to do is build a new hospital!!!

Proposed Commonwealths re-vamp look good. Happy they've opted to renovate instead of replace.

Agreed. It's a gem and while not ideal for CFL, it provides the opportunity for very large outdoor concerts such as Metallica to come to Edmonton and provide significant economic impact.
