Anyone know where these came from (another forum?/social media?) or when they were created? On the linked page by TwinCity it states that the client is: Camden Securities Company and Shamrock Realty.

The latest press release from Wake Forest has totally different names mentioned: Carter and Front Street Capital.
https://news.wfu.edu/2023/08/17/wfu-...con-blvd-area/

Just wondering if this was a previous study/rendering prior to Carter and Front Street being involved? But new to us.

I read-through everything and looked-over them (conceptual renderings) closely. I saved everything, if it disappears. Did some research and asked a friend. Camden Securities and Shamrock Realty are a development team known for shopping centers and apartments, REALM is their landscape architect, and the images are dated September 2023 on the server. That was around the time the project was announced. The current development team is Front Street Capital and Carter USA, with NELSON drawing-up the site plan. The link appears to be one of the proposals that wasn't selected? If that is so, it's still interesting, though. I thank TwinCity for sharing it. It gives us an idea of what they may have asked for in an RFP.

That's unfortunate. I've been casually following this upcoming neighborhood for a while since a the Whitaker Park redevelopment got underway.

The timing for something to finally appear online just as the whole Deacon Blvd area is up for rezoning next month is a bit odd. I guess we will know more in September?

Those long white rectangular structures with what looks like grass on top, is that the actual architecture we can expect to see or simply placeholders for more detailed renderings to come later? In other words, are the stores/restaurants/apartments going to be located within these long buildings as one of the renderings has them, or will we see at some point separation in the units, be they stores, etc.?

Projects & Construction:
I want to thank the photographers and local businesses, sharing updates on projects, who make this thread possible. Without you, these updates won't happen. I don't make any money from this and these updates are to share, with both locals and out-of-towners, what is happening in the city they love. Many people reading this are far-away and this allows them to see the projects. If you can, please support any local businesses or follow social pages sharing photographs and thank them.

A major league sports event is moving from Los Angeles to Winston-Salem, more jobs are on the way, and there are two exciting new bike paths in planning... all in this week's Winston-Salem Update! Lets get updated!

Winston Junction Expansion:
Is Winston Junction Market ready to expand? Evergreen Hill Studio was hired to design a 13,750-square-foot building at 951 North Trade Street. That is the pad behind Winston Junction Market, where they demolished a cold storage building a year or two ago. This is a spec project, with no tenants at this time.

Wandering Sun Meadery: Built!
Wandering Sun Meadery, at 505 North Cherry Street, is now completed and open! They will soon open The Royal Lounge in their upstairs space, in a phase II of the project. Please spread the word of this new meadery and take a friend when you visit.

10 West Third:
In addition to the renovations that have started, there is also news they have leased two of the building's floors! Blue Pearl Restaurant will open at 10 West Third Street. The owners of Blue Pearl are also the owners of Raku Ramen & Sushi in Clemmons. L&L Construction will be the general contractor for the upfit, which includes the basement, along with the first floor. It's great to see a tenant in one of these two buildings and it's a tenant that can bring foot traffic to that area! This will be a significant renovation.

New Tenants/Leases:
The Center for Creating Opportunities will move to 4,650-square-feet at 635 West Fourth Street. They provide "adult day activity and socialization, specializing in intellectual disabilities." They plan to move into the space without any major renovations.

Camino Bakery, at 300 South Marshall Street, will expand their outside deck and add a restroom in the basement. Expect an interior refresh and new equipment in the kitchen, as part of this project.

Davidson County Homeless Shelter:

New Headquarters:
A produce company is considering moving their headquarters and 140 current employees to Winston-Salem and creating an additional 165 new jobs. The State code name for the project is Project Kohlrabi. The company is currently in the Mid-Atlantic region and wants to expand into the Southeast region.

STITCH Design Shop Headquarters: Built!
If you would like to see the inside of 1105 Burke Street for yourself, they will have an open house on August 22nd, from 4 p.m., to 6 p.m.,.

NASCAR Clash moving to Winston-Salem:
NASCAR has announced they are moving The Busch Light Clash from Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to Winston-Salem's Bowman Gray Stadium. Yes, this is another major league sport for Winston-Salem and should bring international tourism to the historic 1930s Art Deco Bowman Gray Stadium. It's not very often a big sports event moves from Los Angeles to Winston-Salem. It will be broadcast on Fox Sports. According to NASCAR, "This will mark the first time the Cup Series has raced at the track — known as “The Madhouse” — since 1971," when Bobby Allison won in Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem was a yearly stop on NASCAR's top series and is where Richard Petty won his 100th race in 1969. This is seen as a major "return to their roots" for NASCAR and should generate a lot of fan excitement. Bill France himself brought the sport to this track and interestingly, it was the first paved track in NASCAR.

Tickets will go on sale in late-September 2024, for those who want to be there.

Alternative Transportation:

Strollway-Long Branch Trail Connector:
Ideas are currently being explored to connect The Strollway to Long Branch Trail. These are the most popular options being considered. Town Run Lane to Third Street to Fogle Street. The advantages of using this route include the flatness of the route, it's likely the cheapest route, and it's the most direct route. Third Street is also a low-traffic corridor. If selected, it would have a two-way separated cycle track. Another option being considered is First Street, with a bridge connecting it to Long Branch Trail. A scenic option would use Town Run Lane to Third Street to Main or Liberty Street to Fifth Street Street to Patterson Avenue to Seventh Street. It's the most indirect route with the roughest terrain, but if it uses Liberty Street it would connect to the Campbell Center (Transit Center) providing a last mile solution for some transit riders. One more option to consider would use First Street to Patterson Avenue to Third Street and finally Fogle Street to connect to the Long Branch Trail. All routes will be walked and biked to see the advantages and disadvantages of each. Then a final route proposal will be selected.

Midtown-Long Branch Trail Connector:
A bike and pedestrian path, connecting the Long Branch Trail to the Midtown at Wake Forest development, is also being studied. Not much to report at this time.

Anyone know what the Dutch Light is going to offer that Dram and Draught doesn't already (besides a cool skylight). Its driving me crazy that this space ended up being a cocktail bar. Basically sitting on top of another cocktail bar. Both being very large spaces.

That really is an incredible view from I 74. It must be an optical illusion as I cannot identify all of the buildings especially the one on the far right.

Yeah. It's either an optical illusion or enhanced in some way. I can identify the buildings but they look different. That's the RJR Plaza building on the far right but it's out of scale.

It's an illusion created by the ridges and terrain. Downtown is at a high elevation and the elevation drops-off where the Innovation Quarter is located. A ridge rises between the drone and downtown. This is why the Innovation Quarter's buildings aren't visible and it appears as if downtown is sitting on the treetops of that ridge, from the base of the buildings to the top, since the buildings in front of those are in a valley. The elevation slopes downward from 500 West 5th to 200 West Second, adding a little more height to the northern buildings.

The RAI/Plaza Building is extremely wide. It has large floor plates and the elevator/stair core is a projection on the south facade, making the floor plates larger and the building appear wider from this view.

The drone is looking down on the roadbeds of the ramps. I doubt the ramps will have that view, but may have a view of the upper floors, rising above that ridge's treetops? It is a good camera. I can see the mechanical penthouses, the dome, and other features. From left-to-right, Wells Fargo Center | I'm having trouble identifying the short low-rise building next to the Wells Fargo Center? | The white building is Liberty Plaza | The short white building below Liberty Plaza is likely the new courthouse | The brown building with mechanical penthouse is Nissen Apartments | The brown building with a south projection is 500 West 5th | The blue building is Truliant Tower | the pointed building is the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel | The other (extra-wide) white building is RAI/Plaza Building. Not pictured are 200 West Second (Likely behind the Wells Fargo Center?), One West Fourth (likely behind Truliant Tower and the Cardinal Hotel?), Marriott (likely behind Truliant Tower?), and Crystal Towers (likely behind 500 West 5th?).

Per the TBJ, it is believed that Atrium closed on the former Inmar building on August 15, paying $28.5M to buy the building from Wexford. They are hoping to open a "multispecialty ambulatory surgical program" there by July 2026. They have filed a Certificate of Need with the state.

"multispecialty ambulatory surgical program"

I thought it as to be the Eye Center scrapping the plans to build the Eye Center. Am I confused?

So I'm guessing this is the second major program/operation that will be based out of this building in addition to the previously announced eye center. Hasn't there been some recent rumblings that WFB will be starting that project soon?

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a public hearing to address an economic development incentive request for a manufacturer that would open a local facility with at least 165 jobs.

The board will address at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 an incentive request that appears similar in details to one before Winston-Salem City Council.

The commissioners' legal notice, posted Friday, lists the unidentified company as pledging to create 165 full- and full-time equivalent jobs at an average annual wage of $55,452. It said it would make $6.25 million in capital investments.

It will still be the Eye Center. "Known as AHWFB Outpatient Surgery Center – Innovation Quarter, the center will include two operating rooms of about 550 square feet each; two non-licensed minor procedure rooms; a LASIK procedure room; and 20 pre- and post-operative recovery rooms. It will offer surgical specialties in ophthalmology, otolaryngology and plastic surgery."

I wanted to find an airport restoration update and I did. Sadly, I couldn't find an update for the East Tower (tallest under construction) or 4th & Green Apartments' construction. Lets get updated!

WFBH Eye Institute:
Construction will start in Spring 2025, with completion set for June 2025 and the first procedures starting in July 2025. Two operating rooms will move from Hawthorne Hill to a 20,165-square-foot outpatient surgery center in downtown's IQ District as part of this project. In addition to ophthalmology procedures, the two operating rooms will also be used for otolaryngology and plastic surgery. Plans also include two minor procedure rooms, a LASIK procedure room, and 20 recovery rooms. This is in addition to medical and surgical specialty physician offices. They expect 71% of the patients visiting the facility to be from outside Forsyth County. The construction cost of this project will be $25.06 million and the acquisition cost for the building to be renovated is $28.5 million.

Dunbar School Apartments:
The historic Dunbar School in Lexington will be converted into 60-65 apartments by Belmont Sayre. The City of Lexington will rent back the auditorium, gym, tennis courts, playground, and basketball courts for public use. Dunbar School was originally built as an African-American high school in 1951 and was expanded in 1957 and 1973.

Liberian Student Dormitory:
You may remember this project from 2016. A fundraiser (International Liberation Gala) will be held on September 28, 2024 at the Benton Convention Center that will feature both the President of Liberia and the Mayor of Monrovia. It will help raise money to build a 20 bed dormitory for students from Liberia who are studying at colleges in Winston-Salem.

If you're looking for a way to take part in a project in the city, donating to this organization is a great way to make this building happen!

Event Center & Food Truck Park:
Now Pro Construction is preparing to start work on the food truck park's restrooms and electrical.

Enterprise Center Expansion:
Norwood Architecture & Design will design an expansion of the Enterprise Center with an entrance lobby on the building's east side, new commercial kitchen, ADA upgrades, and renovations to existing spaces to improve the existing kitchen space. The renovations will increase the kitchen work area and cold and dry storage. An elevator and lobby at the building's northeast side will provide access for the commercial kitchens.

1913 Lord & Burnham Conservatory Restoration:
"Today, our Gardens staff and volunteers planted over 1,000 vibrant blooms around the Brown Family Conservatory! These new flower beds, replacing the old peonies at the formal Gardens entrance to the Greenhouse, will bring year-round beauty and color to our renewed Conservatory. We can’t wait for you to see them flourish this fall!" Completion is set for October 8, 2024.

Livability's 6 Cities Redefining the Future of Medicine:
Boasting a nationally recognized research program that fueled some serious extramural funding (to the tune of more than 400 million dollars), it’s no surprise Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, is starting to turn heads. The university not only ranks among the country’s top PA and Nurse Anesthetist programs but also claims many noteworthy graduates, including Thomas Marshburn, MD, a veteran astronaut with three space flights under his belt. Winston-Salem is also known as a hub for regenerative medicine and is home to several companies that are changing the landscape of medicine. Furthermore, the Wake Forest School of Medicine has historically backed a downtown Winston-Salem district known as Innovation Quarter, a unique pocket of the community with more than 90 companies committed to industries such as healthcare, technology and research. The district is one of just nine innovation districts of its kind in the world, and one of its goals, according to Atrium Health president and CEO Eugene A. Woods, is to develop into a “Silicon Valley” for healthcare innovations. https://livability.com/topics/health...e-of-medicine/

I have long wished Winston would purchase the out of use rail line that goes from downtown out to Stratford Road and ultimately to Clemmons. It starts in the Industry Hill area then goes through West End right past the Hawthorne Hill medical campus, down Stratford past Ardmore, Thruway and Hanes Mall. You could figure out a way to extend it from Industry Hill to the IQ and then north to Wake Forest and you'd have about 80% of everything you want covered by light rail. This is the line I'm referring to:
