  • Taco Bell is coming to Charlottetown, Tim Banks hopes that location is Royalty Crossing - nothing confirmed
  • Moores Clothing moving into former BMO location
  • Second floor being added above former Spa tennis courts to make space for new big box retailer on main level - not naming tenant
  • New foodcourt is now open, people seem to like it. Opening soon: Foxy Fox Coffee House and an unnamed pizza shop
  • Winners expansion opening soon

My take: if Moores is moving and main floor spacing being added above the tennis courts, I think the mall hallway will stop at former BMO location, giving the big box store main level space with exterior access, and making Dollarama accessible from outside only.

Edit to add: in my opinion, Lululemon and Taco Bell are done deals if Banks is telling the newspaper this stuff. He wouldn’t gossip with them.

City council originally voted 9-0 to reject a proposal to build additional 49 housing units on narrower lots two years ago.

NIMBYS 0, New Homes Plus 46

Fast forward after IRAC decision.

City council got a kick in the groin by IRAC for this one.
" When it rejects advice from the planners, council has to make clear arguments that are based solely on planning principles, the Planning Act and local protocols. 

Council did not do this, instead getting hung up on the concerns of residents that fall outside the planning department’s scope, the IRAC decision says. 

“In this case, it appears that council was swayed by the subjective complaints of nearby residents that ‘enough is enough’ and that building 17 additional lots in this subdivision would violate the expectations they had about future development when they purchased their homes.”"

Take that City hall!! You're always talking about housing. Glad to see you got yours and what was due to the citizens of this city, and not to a bunch of cry baby NIMBYs. Never listen to them again!

The land will remain low-density residential but now allow 46 total lots instead of 29, each planned for a single-family home.

News,

An Aug. 1 news release from the province says a tender for demolition is now live, with work expected to be finished by the end of 2024.  

A public meeting is scheduled to get suggestions from locals. Bad Idea! We all know what is needed. Barbara Dylla and Andrea Battison should have fun with this one!
8 -10 storeys for senior and affordable housing, what else would you build there and why have the public input. You're just asking for trouble and delays!!

It’s an awkward parcel of land. I actually hope they leave it green for now, develop a long term plan to buy up some surrounding properties, perhaps the seniors’ building will be due for replacement in 10-20 years. It would be a shame to just throw something halfassed there, kinda like how they wasted that massive parcel of land where Charlottetown Forum stood.

Found out why Leons moved to Summerside.
It's because they had two stores next door to one another. Leons is the parent company of the Brick, so they approached the Callbecks if they wanted to take on the franchise which was owned by D.P. Murphy. This would keep the stores separated from one another. I would have thought it would do better in Stratford but I guess there were no buyers.

We have seen this transformation first hand of multiculturalism on our street. Once a street of white, English, Scottish, Irish, French descendents, they are mostly all are gone now. Now a whole new world of people from all over live here on our street. All good law abiding folks!! My only beef is that they don't know what a sidewalk is, most walk on the side of the street! Ugh!!

There is a lot of dump truck activity in the vacant lot across from UHaul on Capital Drive the last few days. I spoke to a driver and he said they've hauled 150 + loads from there. He seemed to think apartments were going in and said he'll let me know what when he hears more.
Anyone hear anything?

I recall seeing a demolition permit for the bungalow a little while back, but no building permits. Weird they’re hauling so much away, you’d think that land would need to be built up. Maybe they’re bringing in material more suitable to build on?

Hopefully they actually intend to build it, unlike Porthouse and everything Grey Group gets approved. Growing tired of these companies using rezoning and bylaw exemptions to increase the value of their land.

But I will say, the developers of this project seemed very engaged in the process, so I think they are motivated to get it done.

I see they added a tower crane to aid in the reno of DVA. A $94 million reno, that really won't change much on the outside. For that much they could add another 8 floors or more in order to consolidate their offices in one spot. As it is, they are spread out around the city in various locations. But then again, they are paying for those locations which is making someone rich!
