Thanks very much! I'm not familiar with that firm, but see that they are based in Kelowna. Looks like they did a solid job on this one. I was involved in a competing bid for that RFP but never learned who had won.

What ever happened to that restaurant being built in the Aberdeen mall parking lot by Best Buy? Was that completed and if so, what is it?

Canadian brew house is planning on opening in time for Hockey season. They've done their hiring already.

That’s a relief. I was afraid it was going to be another Tim Hortons lol.
A cactus club would do well in kamloops, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

Looks like early groundwork’s are starting for the Innova building at 348 Tranquille road, as well as there is a new 4 storey mural in town at the Katherine’s place on Tranquille

That building on Victoria is supposed to be still going ahead, the owners have deep enough pockets... but I have concerns being that his current project ( next to the COAST HOTEL ) has all but stopped any advancement for the last 3 months.

Ive seen this rezoning up for a while now... nice to hear something on it.

Beautiful area too.

Proposed 180-unit Ord Road housing development poised to go before Kamloops Council

https://www.google.com/maps/@50.7131...5410&entry=ttu

A plan to add 180 housing units along Ord Road is expected to go before Kamloops City Council on Tuesday of next week, Aug. 13.

Development Director Marvin Kwiatkowski says the applicant is seeking to rezone a roughly four acre property at 2550 Ord Road, located near the intersection with Tranquille Road from A1 agricultural to RM4 multi-family residential

“They’re looking at about 200 units in three low-rose buildings for market rentals,” Kwiatkowski said. “That one is currently in the stages of looking at geotechnical, looking at some of the environmental issues there, servicing. That is in the hands of the developer, getting all their reports together.”

While its remains to be seen if the project is approved, Kwiatkowski says its great to see developers show some interest in adding some much needed housing in Kamloops.

“We’re seeing people step up to the plate looking at a lot of different parcels that may be in the past weren’t as feasible but we have people looking at them which is great,” he said. “There are some projects that have more complexities than others.”

Not much else is known about this proposal at this time, with those details expected to be made available a few days before the application goes before City Council.

Typically I really support this specific city counselor, but now it appears they want to have a public hearing over the snakes on Ord road, before a development permit can be issued. Makes me wonder what she is thinking... How stupid.

There's some validity to certain individuals recommending a professional complete an assessment of the area where this project is proposed, as if not, it could put the developer under significant legal liability.

The following locally occurring snake species in the Kamloops area are protected under both federal (SARA - Species at Risk Act - listing body is COSEWIC) and the BC Wildlife Act (listing body Conservation Data Centre (CDC)).

1) Western Yellow-belled racer (Coluber constrictor mormon) - BC - Blue listed (Threatened)/ Federal (SARA) Rank 1, Threatened.
2) Northern Pacific rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus) - BC - Blue listed (Threatened)/ Federal (SARA) Rank 1, Threatened.
3) Gopher snake (Pituophis catenifer deserticola) - BC - Blue listed (Threatened)/ Federal (SARA) Rank 1, Threatened.
4) Rubber boa (Charina bottae) - BC - Yellow listed/ Federal (SARA) Rank 1 Special Concern.

Basically, if you disturb or destroy any of these species habitat or injure of kill any individuals, you are subject to prosecution under these Acts - which a smart developer really doesn't want happening. Unfortunately, the location of the project is in high value reptile habitat (south facing BG xh biogeoclimatic zone/subzone). Both the Provincial species at risk listings under CDC and federal species at risk listings under SARA apply to both private and public land, meaning they are protected by both levels of government (SARA - federal/Wildlife Act - BC). Max fines for killing these species is up to 1M in fines or 6 months in jail.

Hence the suggestion for a review of potential snake use of that particular piece of private land or Ord Road. It doesn't mean they can't develop there, they just have to ensure they don't destroy any habitat or individual snakes. If there are concerns, a provincially legislated Professional Biologist can complete the assessment and put together a mitigation/relocation plan for the developer.

While I'm all for preserving the area the snakes live in, ( as I hike the area ) it boarders a protected and massive area. The snakes can be moved the 100 feet on to the protected area, and this area could be safely developed.

Yes I would be a great location there. Secondly is where the mechanics shop is, just next to the West entry of River side Park.
