Sitting in my home office listening to the cruise ship horns blowing, so checked the webcams. Whichever this one is on its way out through the narrows.

Space weather. Just saw a notice of another massive solar flare. Highest rated so far.

So Aurora forecasts are looking good For Saturday. If Not earlier. If it is bigger than the last 2, you should be able to see it in all Canadian cities.

Latest track to Ernesto showing not much deviation from earlier. This track would keep hurricane strength winds offshore, while the Avalon would probably pick up quite a bit of rain.

I just stated a fact. I if you don't like it then I cannot help you. At least I provide the full picture instead of just mentioning the numbers that makes my city look the best/hotter.

Bragging about 40C living room is weird. I have been in a house without A/C in almost 40C weather in the Mediterranean. The warmest it got in the living room was about 33-32C.

Since July 1st Ashcroft has had 3 nights below 14 (but none bellow 13 for what that’s worth).

Osoyoos has had 5.
I do agree it's arbitrary but it is what the twitter account provides. If it was me administering, I would keep the temperatures to round numbers like 5C, 10C, 15C.

28C with a humidex of 34 and sunny. Unfortunately, we had some smoke from Western Canada so the sun wasn't at full strength. It probably kept the temperature about a degree or 2 cooler than it should have been. Better be a one off, one thing I cannot stand is smoke.

Low of 19C this morning.

The warmspot was Aschroft, BC at 35.0C.

Warmest low was Gimli (Harbour), MB at 20.1C.

18C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 25C this afternoon - delightful weather!

Tropical Cyclone Information Statement (Ernesto) in effect for:

Land Zone

Newfoundland

Avalon Peninsula North
Avalon Peninsula Southeast
Avalon Peninsula Southwest
Bonavista Peninsula
Burin Peninsula
Clarenville and vicinity
St. John's and vicinity

Marine Zone

Maritime Waters

Banquereau
Browns Bank
East Scotian Slope
Georges Bank
LaHave Bank
Laurentian Fan
Sable
West Scotian Slope

Newfoundland Waters

East Coast
Northern Grand Banks
South Coast
Southeastern Grand Banks
Southwest Coast
Southwestern Grand Banks
For Hurricane Ernesto.

The next information statement will be issued by 3:00 p.m. ADT.

We continue to monitor the evolution of now category-2 Hurricane Ernesto which is tracking northward toward Bermuda and will impact that island tomorrow. This large storm will generate significant ocean swell that will begin arriving along the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia late tomorrow and south-facing coasts of Newfoundland late Sunday. Increasingly hazardous surf and rip currents can be expected. Beachgoers and sightseers are encouraged to exercise caution. For southeastern Newfoundland large waves will move in and build from the southwest on Monday and Monday night, and will then diminish into Tuesday. Again, exercise caution during this period.

For Newfoundland specifically: although not yet clear, the waves combined with the possibility of storm surge, may cause some coastal flooding along southwest-facing shorelines in the Burin and Avalon regions. The extent of this will become clearer over the weekend.

We expect that the track of Ernesto's center will be well south of Nova Scotia as it travels northeastward then will approach southeastern Newfoundland later Monday. Since the storm circulation will be quite broad with tropical air and downpours spreading well beyond its center, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland could see at least some rain either directly or indirectly on Monday and Monday night. The probability of wind impacts in Nova Scotia is now very low, but there is certainly an increasing likelihood that southeastern Newfoundland could be within the storm circulation. This will also become clearer over the weekend.

Interests in Canadian offshore zones should certainly pay attention to this storm, especially the Grand Banks.

Looks like one of the lowest humidity weeks of the summer.

Nice day today, but currently raining. Basically supposed to rain all weekend. This afternoon...

Very muggy today, high of 25.4 with a humidex of 33. The low was 20.6 and we had a brief thunderstorm this afternoon.

Monday to Wednesday will be the coolest weather since May

29C with a humidex of 35 and sunny. Once again thin smoke from Western Canada which took away a degree or 2 from the real potential.

Low of 20C (humidex of 27) this morning.

The warmspot was Waskaganish, QC at 31.9C.

Warmest low was Port Colborne, ON at 20.7C.

18C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 27C this afternoon. Perfect weather.

There is a cold front coming through on Monday evening (a good thing since this is keeping Ernesto offshore). The temperatures will abruptly take a dive after the front passes, with daytime highs at the end of the forecast period only in the vicinity of 20-22C, and overnight lows about 10C. Is this our first hint of oncoming fall???

Cloudy, sun is starting to break through, still some notable haze/smoke, and 20 degrees at just before 11am. Highs near 23 today, chance of showers most of the day.

Looks like the expected track of Ernesto moved westward a bit overnight, after a few days of being projected to move further east. The ECM, GFS, and ICON runs all have Ernesto making landfall near Cape Race around 1am Tuesday morning as either a category 1 hurricane or post-tropical storm.

Unless there's a major shift westward towards to a landfall closer to the Burin Peninsula, winds should be a non-factor even with landfall near Cape Race.

Whoa whoa whoa, dont blame the West, this is your own Smoke coming from the East...

We had an absolutely wonderful day yesterday, a high of 25c and rained for most the day. We received a total of 12mm of rain, which is just over 1/3 of our typical August monthly total. Was a really nice brief relief, as we climb back up to highs of 31c and 32c today and tomorrow.

We've been so lucky with smoke this year in Vancouver. Normally, when there are fires in Washington or Oregon, we get smoked out big time.

Now watch, by saying that, I've doomed the south coast to weeks of smoke. Sorry.

The weather yesterday around Vancouver was very user friendly.
After a mostly overcast morning the afternoon was sunny.
Continuing warm (not hot) and dry.

Friday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 21 C (24 C w/Humidex), the low was 17 C.
