Finally a break here. Cool and overcast, following very heavy but short-lived rain overnight.

17C and overcast in Moncton at 8 AM, clearing off, but with a high today of only 22C. Should actually be quite pleasant.

Latest hurricane track for Ernesto. It shows the hurricane will likely begin deviating to the east again, passing close to Sable Island, brushing the eastern shore of Cape Breton and likely landfalling on the south coast of Newfoundland probably somewhere near Burgeo. It wiil likely be a weak CAT-1 storm at that point, or a strong tropical storm.

The new paradigm over the last 8-10 years seems to be that Atlantic Canada has to worry about at least one (and possibly two) landfalling hurricanes or tropical storms every year. Since I tend to worry over storm tracks for at least a week before every event, this is doing wonders for my mental health (I have dozens of mature trees on my property, very close to my house, and my pool, pool house and gazebo, A major storm here could do a lotta damage).

^ Models still seem to be all over the place. I've seen everything from a landfall just northeast of Halifax to staying southeast of Newfoundland. I think most model averages still have Ernesto staying offshore, but with this much time until the storm is in our waters every hour that passes can give a wildly different model output.

Not very tropical in St. John's today. Cold front passed through last night with some heavy rain, and some intense thunderstorms along the south coast. Cloudy and a very cold 13 degrees at 10am. Not getting much warmer than that. Temperatures begin to rebound tomorrow before going into a nice, above seasonal weekend.

I don't have your level of concern or worry - the downtown core is very well-sheltered here. But I do worry about my parents, isolated communities, etc.

Agreed. Ernesto is still pestering Puerto Rico, and the cone of probability is pretty broad, but the storm god Coriolis decrees a northeasterly turn almost all the time, and, as such, I feel confident that Ernesto will only brush NS. Whether or not it hits Newfoundland depends on how much of a turn occurs.

Given the track of Ernesto (now an official hurricane), I'm surprised the Canadian Hurricane Centre hasn't released an official statement yet.

The most recent track shows a slight further deviation eastward, but a hit on the south coast of Newfoundland still seems probable.

The news just mentioned that they expect Ernesto to strengthen to a major hurricane (CAT-3 or higher) within the next couple of days.

#pray for Bermuda.

We've had a great stretch of weather. Clear, sunny and dry, with daytime temps in the mid 20s and mornings in the mid teens. Today is typical, currently 26 with a humidex of 32.

We tied #2 position today with our 47th consecutive low above 14C.

The weird stat of the day... between June 29th to now, Windsor has recorded 10 nights/mornings below 14C.

It hasn't been their summer in terms of heat. Castlegar had 29 such mornings despite a warm summer. Puts things in perspective.

#RentFree

If you had a 40C living room like I had you'd be hoping for lows of zero.

And Windsor-Riverside only had 3.

13C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 25C this afternoon.

The Maritimes are now safe from the wrath of Ernesto. The Avalon however is still in the crosshairs.

They issued a statement last night around 7pm (your time).
