What exactly is this building???

Or, is this simply the look off from Mount Royal from a different perspective.

That’s the main lookout point from Mount Royal and the visitors pavilion I believe.

Yes. This is where you go to admire the iconic view of the downtown skyline.

Montreal is so lucky to have such a wonderful park right in the heart of the city. Perhaps only bested by Stanley Park in Vancouver.

Agreed. In all honesty, I was wondering how this was Montreal, or where the hell this was in the Montreal area. The photographer did a great job with setting the mood of the scene. As someone whose only passed by the city, this place is entirely unfamiliar to me, except through the great imagery posted by forum members here.

Mont Royal was designed by Olmsted, the same landscape architect who designed Central Park in NYC. Olmsted was a pioneer in integrating nature into the urban fabric of cities. Although Mont Royal and Central Park are his most famous contributions, his biggest impact was on the City of Buffalo. Some regard it as the best planned city in the US. Buffalo destroyed much of what Olmsted designed but a lot of it has survived. There are Olmsted tours in Buffalo.

Yes, 'tis a great pity Olmsted didn't swing by T.O. But wait, we have Downsview Park! Remember the three levels of government gathering for the big announcement 20+ years ago? 700 acres to become a grand urban park of the magnitude and grandeur of Central Park. What became of the plan is an absolute disgrace. Heads should have rolled.

A very impressive Youtube video. Toronto's growth is certainly impressive. That said, a few comments from afar. First, most of the buildings look the same. Second, the city, at least from the water to Bloor and from the Don Valley to
Bathurst seems devoid of the urban neighborhoods that make city living attractive. Just a lot of tall buildings. Three, the statistics cited are not accurate due to the fact that skyscraperpage is based in Canada, with many of the main contributors coming from Canada, and it is a fact that the number of buildings under construction in cities outside of Canada that are over 10 stories is much greater than acknowledged.

Feels like a hot springs building - very cool photograph indeed.
(For the record - I knew what/where it was almost immediately).

Much of the area is park or natural ravine, and there are several very urban areas hidden by trees in those sections. green space is more attractive than continuous urban sprawl which is why Canadian cities on whole are more attractive and better than other comparable North American Cities.

A different angle from Parkdale.

I think you need to visit before passing judgement. Water to Bloor and Don Valley to Bathurst covers basically the entire city
