Totally agree.

I love the curved rocket thrusters transitioning to the tower floors. Excellent curtainwall is appropriate for a tower that will be Canada's tallest for a long time.

Some cities (or countries ;-) have duds as their tallest... this one will shine. It's always a very pleasant suprise when the built results blow the renderings away. "The One" does this as well.

Can anyone explain what are the thin lines that look 'painted on' the glass and what is their function?

Those are ceramic frits which are baked into the glass ... used for design, privacy, solar control etc.

A great example of fritted glass balconies creating a swooping design effect is the Phase One tower of Pinnacle One Yonge (below).

Interesting - appreciate the explanation.

Also, are those windows actually curved glass on One Yonge? I can't think I've seen any project with actual curved glass in recent memory.

Typically buildings with curvature that I've seen just achieve this with a series of flat faceted panels. I imagine actually curved glass is substantially more expensive.

Yes architects HPA (Hariri Pontarini) are famous for using curved glass across multiple projects under construction in the city... rather than the cheap out you described (using multiple flat panels). There's tons of curved glass used through out The Well.

If an HPA project is rendered with curved glass... odds are it will be built with curved glass (both convex or concave as seen below):

88 Queen by HPA

Even the 2 mid-rises behind the 88 Queen tower were built as rendered with curved glass.

And yes... it's more expensive, but worth it.
