Current Canadian hot spot is Gander NL at 32, not sure I've ever seen Gander as a hot spot before!

Nice 26 in Calgary, could get some thundershowers this afternoon. Would be awesome since the grass everywhere is brown and dead already, no rain in a month and water restrictions only allow 2hrs a week for lawns currently.

Hot and a little bit hazy in Montreal. It was 31 when I took this. Not as humid as I had been expecting given the heat warning all week. It's currently a very comfortable 46%. The heatwave earlier in July was a lot muggier.



Overnight lows are around 22-23, which means it's usually a balmy 25ish degrees until after midnight, which makes for delightful evening weather.



This has been a pretty great summer in terms of weather. Hot and sunny, but with just enough rain to keep everything lush and green. My garden is looking pretty fantastic this year and the tropical plants I keep on the back porch all summer are having a very good time.



Incidentally, the vines are doing extra well this year and I noticed a new one coming up that I'd never seen in my garden before. I was wondering what it was until yesterday when I took a closer look at the little flowers growing on it... and they're hops!

Low of 22C (humidex of 29) this morning.

The warmspot was Estevan, SK at 33.6C.

We hit 29C today, with quite a lot of humidity. We did get some rain for about 5 minutes at 1 pm, and a more sustained amount of rain by 9:30 pm.

I was in Mississauga for the day, so i decided to go for two short walks during the day to ID plants and see how the local parks are doing. The one by my old house is really starting to grow in in some places, with lots of oak and other hardwood saplings now growing up, including a Northern Catalpa or two.

Anyways, when visiting the local conservancy, I noted the large (American) Beech population in one area, just north of a large stand of Eastern White Pines

This is a few smooth Sumacs (I'm 95% sure about this*) growing by the main trail to the area I went to.

30C feeling like 38 yesterday. Our 15th day over 30.0C this year. Muggy weather continues over the next few days. Highs of 28-32C feeling like 35-40C right into Sunday.


Also, Toronto (YYZ) had its rainiest month EVER in July, with 215.4mm of rain.

It's very rare that beech would form double trunks like that! Clearly something happened when this one was young. And yes, that's sumac.

24C (humidex 31) and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 30C (humidex 38) later this afternoon. Definitely a pool day.

Cloudy, some thunderstorms, and 24 (humidex 34, dew point a whopping 24) at 1:30PM. Torrential downpours giving some much needed rain, but this may be the highest dew point I've recorded so far. Highs near 28 today as skies will clear this afternoon.

Last nights overnight low of 22 was the lowest I've recorded, breaking the previous record set 2 nights ago lmao.

It probably is smooth sumac, looking at the fairly sparse and drooping berry cluster. The main difference between smooth and staghorn is the staghorn has fuzzy branches.

There's one other type I've seen in Ontario, shining sumac, also known as winged sumac. Poison sumac is also out there, but very rare and I've never encountered it.

It's going to be 31C today in Toronto, feeling like 39 with the humidex. Currently, its partly cloudy, but the sun is very much out still. It feels quite gross out there.

Yes, but extremely rare. I found this at the edge of a forest east of Chatham.

Never heard of sumac before, but it does look very common south of the border. There’s almost none north of the border, except the tiniest spots in Southern Ontario, and a slightly larger one, but still quite minuscule, in the Thousand Islands.
