I know I may be alone in this but I don't mind an eight story building if it's well designed and interacts with the urban environment now, as this one does.

Also, the eight-story project will shave fewer than 50 units off the 40-story tower's total. Any reduction sucks, but the shorter proposal still has a lot of units. The worst-case scenario would be no project at all, so this is still "the good" if not "the perfect."

If we never knew what it could have been, this is a pretty good design/project. But alas, we do...

The church as a restaurant space should be great though.

This is one of the projects I'm most excited about. LA's first SHoP buildings!

Really excited about this too, and bummed that Lendlease is getting out of the non Australian market. The area around this station is still pretty brutal and I would love if the combination of this project and the mega development across the street kicked it into high gear.

I'd like to see the dirt lot across the street and immediately south of the Metro parking structure developed into a 10-15 story residential tower with little to no parking. It's a perfect lot size for something like that. And the strip mall, auto repair shop, and gas station starting on the northeast corner of La Cienega and Jefferson are prime candidates for redevelopment into mixed use further down the line. There are a couple of local fast casual food businesses in the strip mall that I'd like to see relocated across the street first - and would love for the City to fund or provide tax incentives for those moves to allow those properties to be redeveloped without killing those local businesses.

How are they not building affordable housing on top of that stations parking structure.

Hi popping in from Philly, just curious where LA got all the funds for their metro? The amount of expansion they've been doing is amazing, wish we could see it in other parts of the country too.

It's a combination of bond measures (re: debt issuance) passed by voters over the years and federal matching funds, if memory serves me.

Measure M, which was a sales tax we imposed on ourselves. I also live in philly part time, and wondered why philly couldn't do that to expand the Broad line to navy yard etc. I feel like most people would support it.

Didn't even realize they started work on this. That's great. Silverlake needs more hotels, and this fits the character.

The Intuit Dome looks really nice!

Buju Banton will be performing there in September; my partner and I were thinking of seeing him but his voice is kinda shot now...

City Planning Commission signs off on mixed-use Hollywood Central development

Up to 633 apartments would rise just south of the Walk of Fame

Steven Sharp
Urbanize LA
July 26, 2024

An ambitious proposal which calls for redeveloping properties near the Hollywood Walk of Fame with housing, offices, and retail space has been approved by the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.

Hollywood Central, planned by Rick Selby through the entity J+J Hollywood, LLC, involves parcels located to the south of Hollywood Boulevard at its intersections with Las Palmas Avenue and Cherokee Avenue. Two sites are included in the project, with address ranges 1610-1638 N. Las Palmas Avenue, 1623-1645 N. Cherokee Avenue, 1638-1644 N. Cherokee Avenue, and 6626-6636 W. Hollywood Boulevard. A full buildout of the plan would result in a total of 633 residential units with offices, retail, and parking.

The western property, Site 1, spans between Las Palmas Avenue and Cherokee Avenue. Plans call replacing a commercial building and a surface parking lot with new structures containing a combined sum of 393 studio, one- and two-bedroom layouts (with 40 restricted to rent by very low-income households in exchange for density bonus incentives).
. . . .
