Agreed but I know people who do so. Same folks that order a hamburger at a Chinese restaurant. Not being judgemental here but I figure that this happens more often than we think

The old run-down residential building at 355-357 George Street has been demolished. All that was left when I passed was the stone foundation and a lot of boards.

From Don MacPherson

FLIPPINS BAR/ARCADE
OPENING SOON!

Entrance is the side door on the ground floor of Klub Krome. Directly facing across from Dolan's Pub.

Fredericton resident Dylan Papazian-Clare has long had a passion for pinball machines - and not just playing the arcade games. He collects classic pinball machines, maintains them and has even often hosted a weekly pinball league in the basement of his northside home.

But he won’t hold his next pinball event in that bungalow, because Papazian-Clare is in the process of turning his pinball passion into his pinball profession.
13 Machines on the floor with 7 machines in back for leagues, tournaments and free play nights.
Machines in back area (not accessible to public at all times)
Hotdoggin'
Flash Gordon
Eight Ball Deluxe
Boomerang
Hot Tip
Rancho
Gulfstream

Little update: the old stone foundations are out and the pit is filled with gravel, almost no sign it was ever there.

Anyways that pinball bar-arcade sounds fantastic!

Someone started with good intentions. Too bad. It's going to be a parking lot now isn't it?

Update: According to the UNB President in today's paper, UNB plans to build a new 'purpose-built residence' in its place. According to the article, UNB had looked at all options to repurpose McLeod House but the building was beyond its useful life and many systems would have required extensive upgrades or replacement.

I suspect the HVAC system was probably the main deciding factor. Those old buildings probably had minimal air systems compared to todays standards; and now that AC is becoming more of a factor, retrofitting a good air exchange into an old concrete and brick behemoth would certainly be prohibitively expensive.

There might be some Fire control requirements that would be needed for a modernized building that might not be feasible too.

Fitting in a proper Cable/Fibre network into those buildings would have been extra salt on the wound for deciding to just tear it down and start fresh.

I hope not, buuut yeah, probably. That's how it seems to go around here, sadly. Hopefully in return we get some nice development proposals for the cores this upcoming PAC.. Westmoreland & King, Brunswick & York, Brunswick & Regent, Main & Fulton are all vacant lots I'm itching to see some nicer buildings go up in..

Bonus update: the new justice building is having its siding put up, and they're bringing in a crane this week to get the rest of it. As modern buildings go, doesn't look half bad.

I don't think the zoning allows for that.

Noticed that heavy equipment was placed there a couple of weeks ago. Be nice to see them level Mount Main Street

Looks like there is site prep happening at the corner of Kimble and Wetmore. That area is zoned MR-2 and I believe Colpitts had plans for multiple apartment buildings there.

The reconstruction of Serenity Lane between Red Maple and Woodside looks to be complete. It now has curbs and a sidewalk so it's a big improvement. Will be interesting to see when they get started on the next phase of apartments there.
