Such high ceilings in the lower part of that transition box. I wonder if they'll keep em high - would be a cool view coming into the tunnel.

The large tunnel portal volume should help reduce/avoid the air-piston effect of trains entering and exiting the tunnel.

The transition box is symmetrical so it drops back down to a similar profile. You can see it on the Google Maps "satellite" view of the site.

Nice pic.
You can even see the superelevation of the trackbed (i.e. banking for the curve).
I'm thinking only one track bed has been poured so far.

I think there's only one trackbed on each side of the internal wall of the transition box. If it's that wide for one train I wonder if that's the reason the ceilings are so high. The temporary road seems like it was built exactly where that section of the box was elevated.

Oh, I thought that was a 2-way tunnel.
Maybe the raised part is the safety walkway, as it's narrower than the lower side.

But from this it sounds like that raised bit is for the track. I think we're looking into the station since the doorway on the left might indicate the emergency connection to the other side? It would match up with the track on the outer section of the elevated guideway.

Crews have completed the concrete base to allow for the track installation. This final layer, called the track slab, will have tracks installed on top of it.

As per the tour I had last month, the other track bed is poured as well and is on the other side of the wall, they do not share the same tunnel.

Could be the lens / angle that makes the elevated part look narrower.

Starting to look like a real station!

And that was taken mid-June, too...

Here at South Granville Station , crews are preparing for track installation. The concrete base for the SkyTrain tracks, called the track slab, is being installed.

In the foreground, you can see a completed segment, while crews install rebar for the next segment behind it.

Wow that is coming along pretty quick! I've been out of town for a while and haven't been able to keep up with the progress. Will get down there next week and take a look!

This is where the SkyTrain transitions from above-ground elevated guideway to below-ground tunnel.

Notice that the concrete base for the SkyTrain tracks is slanted slightly to the left. This allows for a more comfortable ride as the SkyTrain rounds the corner.

Escalator installation has begun at South Granville Station.

The first escalator trusses were craned into the excavated station site on July 11. These trusses form the bottom half of the escalator and have now been installed.

Here at Oak-VGH, the concrete base for the SkyTrain tracks is being installed. On the left, you can see a completed segment, while crews construct the next segment on the right.

The train platform will be built in the middle of the station, with tracks running on either side.

Hey is anyone able to confirm that this foundation going in under the elevated guideway at Fraser and Earl Finning Way is for one of the substations/power feed station?

Also confirming that there are only 2 substations/power feed points, with the other being located at Arbutus?

I haven't been able to find it confirmed in any of the documents that I have.

Cheers

They're adding a substation at VCC-Clark to the existing Millennium Line (underneath the back of the station by the Clarke Drive bridge).

I seem to recall the first Broadway substation was going to be pretty close to the station at Great Northern Way, possibly where the emergency exit comes out. So that doesn't map up with whatever they're doing at Fraser Street.

There should be a substation around Broadway-City Hall too, if I recall correctly, but I can't find the document I'm looking for to confirm that.
