As far as the theatre goes, that element seems the most concrete of the plans by reading the tea leaves.

I wonder if the success (or at least notoriety) of the Sphere in Vegas would lend to ideas of constructing a similar (though smaller) venue. Perhaps not anything like the external LED shell, but perhaps internally relying heavily on an LED ceiling backdrop and ceiling. For obvious technical and cost reasons I don't see them building an external LED edifice,

Seems a lot of the green space in the renderings is “parkland on top of parking garages”. Not a huge fan of that plan when you could go underground for parking and/or centralize it in a few larger garages and have normal street level park land.

That tall high rise building presumably facing Ashland looks really nice. Possibly 500 to 600 feet?

This is an area that has been starved for deep investment for decades compared to other hot areas like Near North, Fulton Market, South Loop et al and so per dollar this will make a huge impact on the area and the city as a whole.

It's been the missing bridge real estate wise between the Medical District, UIC, and Fulton Market and should unlock additional capital investment that has been sitting on the sidelines for areas west of Ashland.

Exciting to see this kind of investment outside the usual core. Go west, young man!

What's the latest tab on the entire renovation of O'hare airport's main terminal?

A new indoor stadium for the Bears? 4 bil with infrastructure?

So 7 billion for this? Ok

That 7 billion figure is for the whole development including all stages, not just the first one!

Years ago when I was at Freemont St in Vegas, I had an idea about a Pink Line station at Arcade Pl, basically dead even with the UC. I'd make a cool public space under the tracks. LED lighting - do a whole ceiling. Public art, games, food, drinks whatever. Call it Arcade Place, make it a brand, a fun place to hang out before and after games and shows.

Agreed. How deep can they realistically dig down around the UC before hitting the water table? Parking garages should be dug deep, so the 10 acres of public park space can be at grade, not up on a plateau where it will never feel truly public. It will be sectioned, roped off, closed whenever they want, corporate and sterile.

right. basically what south loop british school did, which is also usually mostly empty and devoid of people (despite what these renderings are trying to suggest). all this stuff is 60 feet in the air and behind a gate.

theyre trying to make it look lush and green while still having buildings at the base. notably absent are street level renderings, everything here is birds eye/drone view. even just from a conceptual standpoint i think this needs a lot of work IMO. im seeing a lot of dead/weird spaces that are just going to be offputting dark concrete viaducts. theres however many levels here, and none of it looks particularly well inter-connected either. almost like some pseudo planned high-line, but without all the organic-ness and jumping on/off points that has

Apples to oranges comparisons, especially when considering there are multiple phases to this entire project, so 7 billion over the course of 10+ years is not unrealistic. But please, keep talking and showing your ignorance for the entire forum to see.

I would agree with you that the renderings don't seem to convey what would be purported to be 7 Billion in development.

However, seems like they really don't have a concrete vision yet for the total direction of the project, and this might only be showing the very initial stages with some generic infill renderings?

I wonder if the Advocate Center would move as part of this. It doesn't seem the best use for that location if a Pink Line station is going to make that side of UC the public side, the entertainment side. Best to move it to the west side, farther from the crowds. It's not a public space is it?

I myself am happy with the parks being raised up over the parking garages because they are all supposed to be wrapped in retail and stuff, so it will provide an urban frontage. A big focus of this project is restoring the urban fabric through the site. Creating ground level parks would not continue the urban fabric, but by raising the parks above the street and providing street front retail, it maintains the urban fabric and creates active streets, while still providing park space
