Calgary might be one of the markers that will keep the same number of boxes or increase. I remember a decade ago the owners were musing about going to 150+ corporate boxes—before the oil collapse.

Calgary has a lot of companies that can justify boxes.

A billion dollars to watch the fireplace channel in HD. Fragmented angular planes is so Calgary and better than swoops; another Calgary design vernacular.

Looks like it will be fun on game day.

Congrats Calgary at getting to this point. I know it's been a challenging journey. You can be proud of that design. So much better than the HP printer that came before it.

So every arena in Canada is either Scotia or Rogers?

Wonderful isn't it.

Might have even surpassed the CFL days of 2 x RoughRiders.

Just checked and Scotia has more arenas than Rogers does. Scotia has Toronto, Calgary and Halifax. Rogers has Edmonton and Vancouver.

Though Bell also has 2 (Montréal and Laval) as does Vidéotron (Québec and Trois-Rivières).

Not an arena, but Rogers has the Skydome.

Hamilton's current arena doesn't have a name anymore while it's under a massive renovation. So maybe we'll have another building named after Rogers or Scotia.

Now that you mention it I've seen some similar examples for other buildings. All in all it's not a bad look having angular planes.

There are now two Slush Puppies Centres - the original in Gatineau and now Kingston.

Was not expecting that! Slush Puppie has more arenas named after it than Canadian Tire (maybe).

Those images of Calgary take me back to when I was a young architect doing renderings for the MTS Centre in Winnipeg (2004). This one took two weeks of rendering time. I had to do it in pieces and cut them together in photoshop. Today it would render in half an hour.

That's me in the bottom left, with the architect of the building from my office. I found a jersey in a sporting good store put it on and got him to take a picture of me. As a bitter child of Jets 1.0, I didn't own a Moose jersey and refused to go to games. They didn't like that I put Jets banners in the foreground. I actually think they made me change that in the end.

Thanks for the love J.OT13 - I agree, a huge improvement over the LaserJet printer in so many ways. And they have already started site prep so things are getting real.
