As much as I have liked Commonwealth, I have sat and watched Good Football. Soccer and Athletic events. Commonwealth Games, Universiade and World Track. Its time has passed.

It does not meet any of the current Athletic Standards. Not FIFA standards either. I do not see Edmonton Playing host to any major sporting event again. The costs are just to high. Its to big for current use and we do not get enough stadium tours to justify it. Time for a smaller stadium like Toronto's Soccer stadium.

It would be hard to let her go, but I somewhat agree... OR renovate Commonwealth with a dynamic lower bowl that can move in or out to respond to events.

Katz/Oilers buying the Elks would be an absolute travesty, so we are fortunate it isn't going to be him.

Haven't heard any of these rumours regarding a new stadium for the Elks, but I don't see it happening simply because the demand for a new large stadium isn't there. Best Edmonton is going to get is a couple million to improve Commonwealth and kick the new football stadium can down the road for another decade or two.

I could, however, see a smaller soccer stadium go north of Ice District, along with a new CPL team and promises of hosting some pre-WC 2026 training camps. Katz probably has the money for that in his couch, and the province could throw some dollars at the surrounding infrastructure like they're doing for Calgary's arena.

New Flames arena is supposed to be revealed today, reports have it as another boring design. Sounds similar to Little Caesars in Detroit, if that's the case I'll take it!

Pragmatic, 'well integrated' (relatively speaking) and usable gameday or not around its perimeter.

Agreed. Good interaction around the arena for use all the time and it would be a total win.

The name of the arena got leaked already: Scotia Place. Hopefully the design is less boring.

Was hoping for something different like Westjet Arena.

Rogers and Scotia have a mega monopoly on facility names in this country

Reminds me of Edmonton's downtown library.

Absolutely massive improvement from the previous design. I love the incorporation of LED lighting around the arena bowl to make it look like a big flame. I think this sets up the arena to be very iconic and maybe even become one of the most iconic in the NHL.

How? this looks nothing like that.

Love the retail around it like Little Caesar's in D town. Curious what the material on the top of the building will be.

It looks pretty good. Unique idea by dividing the upper bowl into two separate bowls (but will share the concourse). However upper bowl concourse wont have a view of the rink since it’s a portal design. Lower bowl concourse looks like it will have a view of the rink from the concourse? There isn’t any concourse renderings.

Also looks like they will have a premium concourse for parts of the lower bowl.

They didn’t copy Edmonton with the bar rails on the upper bowl so I’m a bit suprised by that.

Flame design looks very good. I just hope the design looks good during the day.
The patio is extremely unique.

What’s the seating capacity?

I'm on the fence about Commonwealth. In one sense it's Canada's version of Arrowhead Stadium, but in another it doesn't "fit" current needs

Can it be modified in a way that allows for its full configuration to remain? Doubtful, but perhaps it can be altered to make it more appropriate for what it needs to be today?

And we're not talking about something that's only a couple of decades old... this stadium goes back to the mid-1970s! Maybe its time is gone.

I’m still undecided on it. I believe capacity is 18.5 k. Happy at least that they didn’t reduce that for corporate boxes. The shape looks kind of awkward to me. God, I just realized it’s vaguely reminiscent of a cowboy hat from this side angle.

Scotiabank's symbol has become an "eye" for me.

This looks pretty good! Well, other than the design, which is a bit lacklustre. I'm glad the building is designed around integrating into the community, with street activation on all frontages, and the programming inside is well put together.
