Perhaps this helps provide some insurance for the other residential towers that have been planned in the northern part of West Loop/River West? Hopefully shores up the momentum for the greater area.
And hats off to the obstructing municipal water pipes underneath the Freedom Center which forced the changes.

I was rather of the opposite impression. Haha.

I thought the project had a very high likelihood of going forward through some corporate chicanery. Mostly because non-gaming revenue makes up such a high percentage of casino profits nowadays, and a 24/7 dining, drinking, lodging and entertainment venue direct on the Chicago River would have strong fundamentals.

I did have doubts about Medinah Temple from the start so I hadn’t considered it much in my predictions.

Wow.... I'm damn surprised by this news, but super happy to see this moving forward. Overall design hasn't bee super compromised. I do wish there was a little more water activation on the river, but that can always come in later if desired.

Will the hotel be operated by Bally's themselves, or will that include some kind of partnership with an additional player?

Honestly a bit shocked they got financing. Design is a definite improvement.

Well it's similar to that arch design but Bally's somehow made the span 50% longer, and the arch itself is shown as a truss instead of a box girder.

Actual renderings of the bridge are here, but it's basically a white version of the big red bridge on Damen over the North Branch.

Site fence is now setup around the perimeter of the new casino site. Demo equipment is onsite too. Would assume demo will begin this week if permits are in place.

Anyone call dibs on the southern signage? I could fit the giant "T" in my garage.

New article coming out today on acquisition of Bally's that has now been set in motion:

https://www.chicagobusiness.com/poli...icle1-headline

I have to wonder if this influenced Bally's landing their financing? If lenders were confident they were going to get a new owner, their investment was safe?

Also, per the article:

Quote:
Kim downplayed any dramatic changes at the time, telling Crain's the takeover bid wouldn't impact the Chicago casino effort.
I don't think this changes the trajectory of the project, but may shed light on how it was able to get started so unexpectedly this month.

Demolition ceremony on Tuesday, and demolition of the main complex starts by the end of the month. No specific timeline. This is again from BuildingUpChicago on twitter, a great follow for development news.
