'Lankershim' ceased to exist in 1927 when the name was changed to North Hollywood...No doubt to take advantage of the success of Hollywood on the other end of the Cahuenga Pass.

I ran across a snapshot today from the 1980s that piqued my interest because it reminded me of my former neighorhood of West Hollywood. . . .from eBay.


No, that isn't me.

What intrigues me is the old stone pillar(?) on the left edge of the photo. It's completely incongruous to the rest of the neighborhood.

I know that there used to be stone 'entranceways' on some city streets but I don't believe there were any in West Hollywood.

I found what appears to be another photo of the "starlet" by checking the seller's sold listings which led
me to the Warner Hollywood Theatre, and The Larry Ceballos Revue.

It appears that she was indeed a dancer/chorus girl if the 2nd standing lady on the right side is her:

It also appears to me that the tall metal flue is on the roof of the Warner Theatre based on this image:

If I hadn't walked by this one several times in the last week I don't think I would have recognized it . . . that's the Idaho Avenue
entrance to Palisades Park in Santa Monica. This GSV shot faces in the same direction as the eBay photo, and the stones on the
right edge of the larger pillar match the eBay pic.

This is the Lytton Center for Visual Arts. It was behind the famed, recently-demolished, Lytton Savings, Sunset and Crescent Heights. Seen behind is the apartment bldg at 1416 Havenhurst.

Thanks for figuring the location of the Lytton Visual Arts Center, Beaudry. (and for the photo, Hoss) ... .but I'm still a bit confused by the eBay photograph.

The photographer appears to be standing in the middle of the entrance to the parking lot (right?). . sooooooooo what is the marquee gate for. . . an exit?



And in this aerial the buildings are where the lot should be.







Annnnnnd. . .this #2 building . . .




. .is this #2 building, right?



If so, it's blocking the view of Apt. bldg #1. . . .sooooo the parking lot in the eBay photo would have to be behind it in order to see Apt. building #1, right?


The answer is probably obvious and I'm going to be embarrassed.

Since only 4 floors of the 6+ floor apartment building are visible in the eBay image is it possible that there was rooftop parking on "Building #2"?
Or was there maybe a parking ramp at that location back in the day? It sort of looks like the marquee *might* be located over the top of a ramp to me.

From my original post, here is the lower level parking lot and gallery, so I think that vexedbystuff is correct that the marquee was at the top of a ramp. The strip mall was only built in the late-80s. The section labeled #2 by e_r is actually part of the bank - see GSV.
