That isn't remotely enough. it needs to use up all the land between the 3 roads unto the houses. Then it's future proof for like 600-1,000 cars. OMC3 will need a major expansion for UBC and OMC using all that space, would allow for the second Surrey line to link up with Port Coquitlam or something.

37 acres is larger than OMC 1&2, OMC 3, and the u/c OMC 4

Just to add on to what Vantage said, UBCx is expected to have some considerable underground storage tracks so you don't have to deadhead trains in the morning, reducing the overall storage demand.

Even if it's not an OMC you could probably build a secured rail storage yard out by UBC or the North Shore if those are the next lines of expansion for Skytrain.

When do they consolidate some of these? Wouldn't it make sense to have a huge one out where land is cheaper, and sell some of the others off?

That property isn't in the ALR. You can look it up on the ALR map, its PID is 013230999.

It was 8 months ago when the province bought the land.

It's sort of a genius move. Buy it up at cheaper agricultural prices, remove from the ALR with a quick "we're the Province" wave of the hand.

Here's a map from 2010 showing it as ALR:

Unless you are parking the trains overnight in different stations/secured sidetracks then I guess you introduce some inefficiency of cars having to start at the farthest end of the network to be the first car. I doubt there's any huge incentive to get rid of existing OMCs with working infrastructure to rebuild that on farm land in Surrey/Langley.

Hopefully someone near Surrey/Langley is ready to document the construction progress

It also includes 'discussions' about the planned LRT that thankfully hasn't been built.

If I were TransLink, I'd be tempted to blow a billion on a non-critical junk streetcar (False Creek?) just to say "see, we already tried it and it doesn't work" and shut the know-it-alls up.

I come before you good people tonight with an idea. Probably the greatest... Aw, it's not for you. It's more of a Seattle idea.
You know what? I'll show you my idea! I give you the Vancouver LRT! I've sold LRTs to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook, and by gum, it put them on the map!

I'm happy other people feel the same way about the False Creek streetcar (as if there isn't already Skytrain a few blocks away). I hope they don't turn Arbutus into streetcar either, that corridor should really be skytrain or another fast rail that goes to Richmond and New West.
