The Sunningdale Road and Richmond Street intersection improvements project is scheduled to take place next year.

https://getinvolved.london.ca/sunningdalerichmond

This project includes:
  • the widening of Sunningdale Rd from 2 to 4 lanes through Richmond between Villagewalk Boulevard to Redford Road
  • the reconstruction of Richmond St from Villagewalk Boulevard to Uplands Drive
  • new in-boulevard asphalt bike paths and concrete sidewalks
  • new underground infrastructure, including storm sewers.
  • new median islands, curb, and gutter
  • new street lighting and traffic signals

A virtual meeting is scheduled on January 15, 2024 on Zoom, which will include visualizations of the road improvements

kinda funny eh, all that work in the NW of the city, to support the new builds and new to London-ers, who are then to complain about the work.

Here's hoping they stay on track to do the Wonderland to Richmond widening to 5 lanes and bridge replacement in 2025 followed by the Richmond to Adelaide widening to 5 lanes in 2026. One would hope they also have the EA and planning done for the Adelaide to Highbury widening and Hyde Park to Wonderland widening in 2027 and 2028 years.

An unfortunate update on the Sunningdale / Richmond intersection project from the area councillor's monthly newsletter (Rahman):

Quote:
We are still awaiting permits from Imperial Oil for the intersection of Sunningdale Rd. and Richmond St., this delay will mean we can’t start this project in 2024.
However, on the positive side, this delay means that we won't have two major adjacent intersections being reconstructed at the same time since Fanshawe and Richmond is currently under construction and it is set to finish by the end of the year.

Not surprised to hear this was delayed yet again. It's been a case study on how not to do planning on the part of the City.

Would be nice if London would start using roundabouts for these intersections. It makes a lot of sense in places like Waterloo/Kitchener, why not London? So many intersections can be improved, as well as traffic flow, with roundabouts.

Sunningdale is to be closed overnight from the 26th to the 27th for asphalt repairs between Richmond and Adelaide.

https://london.ca/newsroom/public-se...re-sunningdale

Even though the whole road will have to be torn up again for widening likely within the next few years, I am glad to see these repairs done this week. There are some portions of the road (specifically between Richmond and Skyline) that are in absolute awful awful condition.
