Jazz fest going on right now, then it'll be Fringe Fest, then it'll be Burt Block party so that's at least 5 weekends in the next 8 weeks.

IMHO It sounds like someone has to sell it right, or there needs to be a change in culture within the WCB. I have a feeling it's the former.

Multi-day rock etc stage concert outside the Burt Theatre on the newly adjoined “square” beside it, where Smith St used to cut through between the theatre and the park that no one knew was there

The lot in question will only be a lot until such time that the WCB decides it wants to get into the development game, which is extremely unlikely. The majority of the organization's staff doesn't actually have a parking spot, so that's not where the influence comes from. In reality, the income that the lot generates from staff and the community on evenings and weekends, subsidizes the community stakeholder responsible for WCBs funding, so the lot itself again, is not likely to be anything other than what it is for the foreseeable future... Unfortunately.
My bad, you’re right of course it’s not a crown corp. But if the province seriously wanted that land developed I think they could get it done. Not that I’m holding my breath either.

They're allegedly approaching insolvency, no moolah to book acts. A couple years of no shows drove many music adjacent companies like stereo and light companies out of business so the survivors jacked up their prices by like double or triple. Combine that with inflation and music festivals are now triple or higher in cost and no chance Winnipeggers will go for triple the price tickets.

Spot on. It explains a lot about the stagnation this city has suffered over the years.

I am not a fan of Kevin Klein but I agree with this piece.

Wide reaching issue. Inflation coupled with sponsorship cut backs are affecting a lot of the industry., Just for Laughs was cancelled this year.

Leyad acquired the CDI College campus at 280 Main St. in Winnipeg in February. The 24,000-square-foot building on 9.27 acres of land offers future high-rise development potential of up to 180,000 square feet and 40 storeys. It sits adjacent to the new 300 Main, Manitoba's tallest building.

252 Fort is that giant ass parking lot right? That would make a slick spot for a new tower. In terms of CDI College? Is that a heritage building or just stylized as such?

It is definitely about selling the idea to WCB in the right way. If said development was a long term revenue generation operation for WCB and somehow meant that was still true after offsetting the costs for lost parking it would be difficult for them to say no. Reality is in the time they have owned that lot there have been very few serious developments happen in downtown Winnipeg. That means the opportunity for WCB to sell the lot to a truly qualified developer have bee very limited. If the lot is going to just sit vacant for another 40 years WCB may as well hold it in their own portfolio.
