Rumor is that the USFL will have 3 host cities / hubs for the 2023 year: Birmingham (still the HQ), Memphis and Detroit. The Tampa Bay Bandits would move to Memphis and be rebranded as the Showboats.

Be nice having more teams from cities without pro football teams. I'd hope Birmingham/Memphis games would have higher attendance.

Yeah, I wonder if cities like Lousiville or Little Rock have a chance of getting teams.

In the latest MSA delineations released by the White House, Birmingham re-added Walker County (~65,000) to the metro. That's a good bump, but it's also going to make the metro start shedding people given the former 6 county configuration only grew by a small, small amoun in the most recent estimate.

EDIT: Additionally, the metro dropped Hoover as a primary city. Now it's just the Birmingham Metropolitan Area.

Welp, Birmingham-Southern closes in May... not a good look for the city or the state.

What are the plans for the AT&T Tower again? Besides putting in residences?

A restuarant on the ground floor and a bar on the roof.

So, I've noticed there's a JetBlue flight scheduled yesterday and today between BHM and JFK; both around 4 PM. Little bit weird two days in a row. Maybe the flight is chartered?

Southwest announced Thursday that they are introducing two new nonstop flights out of Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport beginning in the fall of 2024.

In a news release Thursday, the airline stated that they will now be flying from Birmingham to Phoenix and Nashville during the busy holiday travel season and to see how the market responds to the flights.

I would assume so; it's a short, cheap flight. Plus, lots of people down here like spending weekends in Nashville, so there's a tourism draw, of course. Dunno if the flight is anymore convenient than driving up there, though, really.

It's needed. Otherwise you're stuck connecting through Midway Houston Baltimore or Orlando.

And those can be some inconvenient connections. I'll be interested to see how these new flights affect the total volume of passengers.

What would be nice is an Alaska Air flight to Seattle. I'd kill for that for my trips to Juneau; I hate connecting through DFW. Sadly, that's likely a long way off.

Per AL.com, Spirit Airlines will begin offering a nonstop flight from BHM to Fort Lauderdale beginning Oct 10.

We'll see how this goes...
