2026 FIFA World Cup

YOU CAN CHOOSE MORE THAN 1 CHOICE.

Which development do you think will have the most POSITIVE impact on visitors exploring Atlanta?
Which development will leave an indelible impression on peoples' minds once they're returned home?

Let's have some fun, folks.

I voted for the Gulch and MARTA because those are the two things that World Cup visitors are almost guaranteed to experience while they're here. I'm sure those that visit the Beltline will enjoy it too, but they'd have to purposely make a point to visit it.

Yeah, I voted for CY too, because they will actually see it. Marta will probably do just fine, but i doubt most people, especially affluent international travelers will be particularly impressed by it. The beltline is awesome, and i hope some of these folks stay for a while and see it, but I'm thinking a lot will be in and out of the city in 1-3 days.

Five points won't be finished for World Cup, it will be open temporarily to pedestrian access and then closing again afterwards to continue construction.

I don’t think visitors will care or know much about the 18 continuous miles of BeltLine trail, but I do anticipate they will experience & appreciate the BeltLine.

Those who visit the eastside trail more likely to have the lasting impression.

They may spend time at Centennial Yards, but not sure an entertainment district will leave that much of a lasting impression.

Good points. the Beltline was included because of the sustained effort my city leaders to have 18 miles of continuous Beltline prior to the 2026 World Cup.

It seems Centennial Yards is winning this poll. So, here's some updated renderings. I distinctly remember reading construction would commence in June.

Lost the green roofs, but these look pretty good.

I hope we get some demo action soon on that parking deck. I recall the June start date as well.

^Those aren't the most recent renderings, they've already value engineered it so the transparent part is only in the center. They're replacing a large concrete canopy with a large concrete canopy.

They could save some money if they limited the transparent section a bit, perhaps limited to the middle.

Something like this:

Are the Five Points completed renovation plans relevant to FIFA/26 since it won't be ready until at least 28?

In all likelihood FIFA visitors will be guided through a construction site maze under hastily setup scaffolding with plywood covered walls and tarps. Maybe they will see some of the renderings plaster through out the construction site but that is NOT an experience.

I suggest that if MARTA doesn’t have the money, they shouldn't renovate the Five Points station and just continue using the old building.
To save money, the roof design is getting uglier and clunkier with each change, completely losing the original design's sense of lightness.
