The local restaurateur that owned the site died a couple years ago, not sure if his family still owns that property or if they have plans for it if they do still own it. I thought there was a proposal several years ago for the site.

A demolition permit was obtained to get rid of the school building a couple of years ago but they were waiting on the remaining tenants to leave. Nothing but crickets on this since.

I didn't even know that (Reg Cooper Square) was a public square....I thought it was just a brownfield site. It has always looked very shabby and uninviting.

whatever direction they go, just keep Farhi out of it. That guy has ruined downtown London.

All it essentially is is the roof of the parking garage. Even back to when I was a kid, it rarely had any uses other than the seniors in the adjacent apartment building maybe going out there or some city hall staffers having lunch or smoke breaks there. I don't think they had any idea when it was planned over 50 years ago that Wellington would actually have some uses as a closed street for events, but if they had built the square level with the road, it might actually have been more use in those type of events. I mean, it's only a few feet above Wellington but that walkway where the concrete steps are, mid-block, and the grassy sloped area, certainly seem to really separate the square from the street.

You guys ever seen this postcard of Reg Cooper Square? A lot less post-apocalyptic with that little fountain there.

The postcard was published by Victor Aziz Photography circa 1971
