Facade Installation Starts For 555 Bryant Street In SoMa, San Francisco

Construction is moving quickly for the dense residential complex rising at 555 Bryant Street in SoMa, San Francisco. A recent site visit by YIMBY shows concrete has reached the 11th story, and crews have started facade installation. Strada Investment Group is the project developer, and Swinerton is the general contractor.

During our last site visit in December 2023, concrete had passed the first floor. Now, construction is just over two-thirds of the way to topping out, with facade panels as high as the fourth floor, showcasing one of the five alternating rows of sawtooth bay windows from the dynamic design of the architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz.

The exact date for opening has yet to be revealed, but at the current pace of construction, the structure is likely to be topped out with facade installation completed well before the end of the year.

Yes that's right, although it looks like the pattern will change every few floors or so. And I'm guessing the view of the actual bay will be partially blocked by the downtown skyline.

Anyone know if it's topped out? Hard to do a floor count from Jerry's pic but it looks at or almost at its full height. Definitely a prominent structure considering the size and location, I'm looking forward to seeing how the cladding comes along.

Looks like they've done 12 or 13 of the 16 stories, so it's very nearly full height. Still a little more to go though.

Thanks for sharing, obemearg! Awesome vantage points! Central SoMa is starting to densify nicely. Hopefully they figure out something to do with those big empty parking lots all around 5th and Brannan soon. Does anyone remember what's being planned there again?

Just for funsies... I put together a quick mock with all of the projects I could think of (surely missing a few small ones). Fingers crossed we see a lot of action in the area over the next 5 to 7+ years.


Note, that this is a grab bag of projects at various stages; some are fully entitled and others are just initial proposals. Heights and massing should be roughly accurate.

^ Nice! Thanks for putting that together. Great way to visualize what's in the pipeline. Hopefully the City gets all their ducks in a row, so by the time we get out of this downturn and into the next construction cycle, all these projects will be shovel ready.

11/24/2024 - Apparently the random color blocks on the east side of the building is the "art" mandated by San Francisco. Not what I call art. Telephoto photo from the Fox Plaza.

I hate those random color blocks so much. One of the worst trends in modern building design. They always look like shit and age poorly. Disappointed that they feature so prominently on this project.

I agree it looks hideous but I'm guessing at some point that group of derelict low rises next to it at the corner of 4th & Bryant will eventually be built up.

Oof, those panels are particularly ugly. It's odd they extend into the lightwells too, I'd imagine sticking with white panels would reflect more light into those interior facing rooms that have no view ... though maybe this reduces the need to power wash that space as regularly.

I hope so, that intersection could really use some love and those buildings are in pretty bad shape. I did notice that the original plans from a few years ago had a decent amount of glazing on that side that never materialized, so maybe the developer knows something is likely going up there sooner rather than later.
