Thumbs down

Vancouver’s local mountains have seen some snow over the last couple days. Good news if it’s going to be a dry summer.

A beautiful sunny day in Toronto. Mid 50s. I was extremely fatigued/insomnia and feared I'd wasted the day, but 6-9:30pm found the strength for a 20km walk downtown and back. Lots of beautiful people out.

Nice weekend for a hike. There is some kind of local variant of the Blair Witch based on this teepee I stumbled upon.

And this woodpecker, or maybe more than one, has been terrorizing the neighbourhood for more than two weeks now. Twice in two days he went to town on my gutter and gazebo. The sound of pecking on metal as opposed to wood is obvious. Went out to the backyard to see what the hell was going on. This thing is out of its mind.

Everyday for hours all you hear is pecking somewhere around the street. And only half the time is it on wood. This thing is pecking on metal materials on every house.

Tried to locate where he was at my neighbour's and finally noticed he was standing on the top of the ladder and pecking down on it. Of course, right when I get my phone out it flies away.

A mix of sun and cloud with some scattered showers.

Sunday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 12 C, the low was 6 C.

^^^ It'll be gone soon.

I was looking back at some of my previous pics and came across an eerily similar shot from about ten weeks ago.

You can see the vegetation changing colour. In another month or so most of this view will be filled up with foliage.

An un-forecasted 7-8 cm of snow overnight and this morning, ugh. Should melt in a day or two.

Here's hoping you guys in the zone of Totality will have good weather. We are going to be clear in YEG but only get 25-30% coverage. Still will shift light but not the full experience. We get ours in 20 years.

Cloudy and 8 right now, after two sunny and beautiful 15 degree days over the weekend.

Looking at the cloud radar, it looks like it may clear up right at 2pm here just in time for the eclipse.

The flowering trees on my street started to come out over the weekend. Looking forward to it. Definitely earlier than normal.

tomorrow has a high of 21 (!!!).

Currently 15 in Ottawa, going to 18 this afternoon. Kind of hazy, high cloud so not sure how that will effect the eclipse! Lots of visible budding on the trees, flowers popping up, birds chirping. Feeling very springlike today

The eclipse was awesome, we watched it from home. After the totality we tried to go down to the beach but every road to the lake was jam packed so we turned around.

It was pretty dark for a few minutes around totality. Before and after had a weird glow reminiscent of smoky skies from forest fires. It was dark enough that solar lights in our yard turned on.

There were a few interesting weather related phenomena as well.

It rained early morning but was completely clear by noon. Some high, thin clouds formed just before the beginning of the eclipse. I wonder if that was a coincidence or if the eclipse was a factor? Luckily they didn't interfere at all with the viewing experience.

Very eerily, during the totality there was a rumble of thunder out over Lake Erie. Coincidence?

Finally, check out the 5 degree temperature drop and rebound (weather station reception a little spotty today, but luckily caught the important part)

Actually almost froze overnight, going down to 1 degree. High of 21 and sun today though. Rain overnight and for the next 5 days though, which is perfect for the grass seed I spread yesterday.

EC showing 20 degrees to Ottawa today and 22 tomorrow. WNetwork is a bit more conservative at 19 and 19 both days. Things should really green up here this week!

It felt like summer in Kitchener-Waterloo today: sunny, 72F/22C. But I was literally knocked out for surgery and under the effects of general anesthesia so I only felt it briefly afterwards when picking up my Tylenol 3.

Back in Toronto, high 50s and they're doing the prescribed burn in High Park so it's like a forest fire around here.
