White perforated railings wouldn't be the end of the world, at least the slab edges are covered, and it will make a statement out of the balconies. But its certainly not what's shown on that rendering.

This development is just flat out depressing. I walk by it often (yesterday in fact) and struggle to find anything of merit other than increased density. Obviously happy about more people living on a central main street but man, it's a truly inhuman project. Brutal in terms of materiality, street interaction, etc.

This, Trinity Rideau/Chapel, and 1960 Scott are in a league of their own as far as disgraceful displays of “architecture”. I suspect one or two Carling projects that are currently U/C will join that list of dishonour.

I think the main problem with this build is the discontinuity of the balconies where they meet these obvious shear walls.

The original design included radiator-style wrap-around end balconies, punctuated by the alternating diving-boards on the long faces. This is a more or less continuous balcony feature, with a nice mid-century hit on the end walls.

In the bastardization/cost saving process, these blank corner shear walls were added, which led to disruption in the rhythm of the balconies, and now our heads are exploding.

Even if they had gone with the cheapest possible material, the loss of the long balconies is a shame, in favour of cost over style.

Don't know what "sludge infested" even means, but I'm guessing that whatever the "sludge" is, it won't be in the final product.

I don't find the architecture to be especially brutalist, myself. Does it function well at street level? That's the only thing I'm overly concerned with given the prominence of the site.

This thing is a travesty compared to the rendering.

At this point, I'm pretty sure they could build this in Ottawa right next to Parliament, and you would be all 'Whaaaaaat, am I the only one that can't find anything wrong with this?'
