Great fit - here's hoping they bring their coffee concept with it... significantly larger space than the Yorkdale store in toronto. (even better stick a RL restaurant concept upstairs - one can dream)

Is it including the space beside brooks brothers that lead up to michaels that looks like it has been demolished now.

Staples is dumping their Seymour location. I'm amazed they lasted that long.

That building has so much potential to be something really interesting. I wonder who owns it?

Something called DVM Realty back in 1996 (Dominion Vancouver Motors)

https://council.vancouver.ca/960514/p5.htm

Seems like it got amalgamated into Royal Canadian Securities based in Winnipeg. Most of the directors have surnames Everett

https://www.canadacompanyregistry.com/companies/royal-canadian-securities-limited-4/

Seems like it was a family corporation for Dominion Motors. Founded by Douglas Everett who was born in Vancouver but went to university in Manitoba. Never knew they were also connected to Domo Gas.

Wow, interesting that the same company still controls it. I can't imagine there's much heritage value inside but the structure itself would make a great podium for a hotel. Much better location than the proposed one at Granville & Davie.

The interior was totally stripped out when Dominion Motors closed the Ford dealership in the 1980s. Originally there were ramps inside to all three floors, and cars were cleaned on the 3rd floor. The office conversion of the top two floors is much more recent, in 2014. When Staples first opened in the 1990s they weren't leased out.

It was built with a gas bar on the corner, as this 1936 VPL image in a blog post on Changing Vancouver shows.

Given the extinction of fuel stations in the downtown core, it would be interesting to see some of these concepts brought back to life (which will never happen) but even if they were revitalized as EV charging stations it could be an interesting concept, potentially paired with a coffee shop/cafe. Around the world refuelling stations have been integrated into buildings (europe/asia) but something that has never really caught on here.

Who am I kidding nothing like that will ever happen here.

Of note - wonder if anything will happen with the old service station at beach and howe by Vancouver house.

There used to be a number of gas pumps under buildings, but building codes don't allow it here any more. And as Downtown seems to survive with one gas station, it would be odd for anybody else to invest in a new one. Charging stations are coming to public parking lots and parkades (and gas stations) already. Adding more as on-street parking (like the recently added Richards Street chargers) is a more logical location than taking up developable land.

(Outside Downtown, and therefore off-thread, maybe we'll start to see charging stations replacing gas stations - that's already happening in Europe, and Shell, for example, are closing 1,000 gas stations in 2 years, and converting some to charging stations as they add nearly 150,000 more chargers by 2030.)

I think I do remember getting lead crystal wine glasses from DOMO.
Remember when Safeway etc. used to do the same thing with glasses and dinnerware?

I wonder how much shoplifting they had at the Granville store?
They should do well at City Square next to the Sungiven.
There's a Dollarama on the level above.
