Glad to see they're planning two more residential towers. Hopefully they can start getting more height on the Gatineau side and better quality as mentioned.

I'm surprised they're pumping out so much more residential so far on the QC side than on the Ottawa/island side. Demand for "downtown hull" units has never been THAT high (compared to downtown Ottawa demand I would say) and rents they can command on the Ottawa side are most likely much higher.

It's literally one building difference:
- 375 units over 3 buildings in Gatineau
- 230 units over 2 buildings in Ottawa, + 175 beds of co-living

The co-living is hard to count, but if you add those to the total at a 0.5 rate you're around 318 units in Ottawa, so a small building less. Pretty normal considering there was more office demand on the Ottawa side so it has a big office block.

The new building on the Ottawa side should bring them about equal, it's quite tall.

Aroo? Since 2020 in Downtown Gatineau/Hull:

Eleonore -242 units
Loggia sur la Parc - 303 Units
We2 Phase 1 - 236 Units
We2 Phase 2 - 350 perhaps?
Aalto - 162 units
Aalto II - 148 units
Viu2 - 192 units

So right around 1633 units. That's pretty high demand, if you ask me

There's also those buildings at Morin/Montcalm, tho they have pretty large units.

Zibi on the Gatineau side is also closer to stuff, the islands are nicer to hang out on but they're very isolated.

Aalto II looking like a student res. Dear Lord, what were they thinking with that colour scheme in Gatineau?

Ottawa side looks fantastic.

O and Aalto II look MESSY. Just a jumble of bricks and sticks and panels. I hate that they will forever be on that waterfront.

How industrial waste is keeping these Ottawa-area buildings warm
Following the growing popularity of waste heating in Europe, more Canadian firms are trying to reuse energy

Residents of a new development in Ottawa-Gatineau are using industrial waste to keep their homes warm — specifically, waste heat from a local paper plant. Heat is being thrown away all around us.

But it doesn't have to be — it can be captured to heat buildings in a more efficient and climate friendly way.

That's exactly what's happening at the Zibi development along the Ottawa River in Ottawa-Gatineau. So far, 615,000 square feet of residential and office space on either side of the river are being heated with waste heat from the nearby Kruger Products Plant in Gatineau, Que., and more buildings are under construction.

The use of the Kruger's industrial waste for district heating is cool and all, but man, I can't help but feel disappointed with the fact we'll now be stuck with an eyesore industrial building in such a prominent location for many decades to come. Before Zibi, I long thought it was just a matter of time before the Kruger parcel got redeveloped, and I had high hopes it would be redeveloped into something special given its location. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Same, when their lease was extended I was very disappointed. Waste of prime shore line real estate, and is an eyesore.

It looks like they're doing work on the old road along the shoreline to convert it into a pathway. Isn't that a pile driver next to it closer to the river?
