We had some morning sun and then the afternoon was overcast. Light showers developed in the evening.

Monday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 10 C, the low was 4 C.

Friendly reminder to all of ye that we're not part of the Maritimes.

We have something more potentially on the way for Thursday.

Oh, I know this very well, and no offence was intended.

The poster however was labouring under the misapprehension that the entire region was buried under mounds of snow. I was just pointing out where the snow actually was.

Colder spring is not just in our heads. And our seasonal lag is getting stronger.

Hah, and where did I say that New Brunswick (or anywhere actually) was buried under mounds of snow? This is what I can putting words into someone’s mouth (Even though the two most populous metros in the area are currently, and yes, strictly as a short hand environmental / climatic region, I do include St. John’s as “the Maritimes.” Just like if I’m referring to “The Prairies” in an environmental sense that includes north eastern BC)

Anyhow, even though you falsely equated my comment to being about just precipitation, winter also involves temperature, and yes, New Brunswick along with the rest of “The Maritimes” has experienced the most consistent sense of winter this year relative to norms, though without any major surges of deep cold.

On the Atlantic coast, we know that winter will be cold. That's a given.

Since we are traditionally a snowy region, we tend to equate the severity of the season with how much snow we have received. Therefore, since NB has received little snow this year, there has been no winter.

The fact it was -14C this morning in Moncton matters not a whit.

Nice day in the Westend neighbourhood of Vancouver with a tiny bit of sun, and then clouds and rain.

Mild, overcast, and clear all weekend around the Lower Mainland, from Howe Sound to New West:

Yeah, you can basically stick a fork in it. This Saturday seems to be the last gasp, with EC calling for a low of -14 in Toronto, but the next day it's going to be 5 and sunny.

Truly bizarre winter.

After a quick and relatively harmless cold snap in the GTA, we are back in the above seasonal pattern.

Currently 3 with lots of sunshine.

7 day forecast: 4/8/7/2/-2/6/6

Friday night is forecasted to drop down to -14 overnight. After that, long range forecasts have us well above seasonal heading into March.

Mount Pearl is buried. I said to Fadder, "If I was driving, I wouldn't know which place is yours!" And he winked and said, "The only one with a black driveway!" The stuff he's proud of is adorable to me.

I thank my Canadian friends for the beautiful snowy photos of your cities. Photos that warm my heart and make my eyes happy. :saluti: However, here in Europe (with the partial exception of a part of the Scandinavian peninsula) the winter of 2023/24 did not arrive, very warm temperatures and very little snow even in the mountains. Perhaps it is the coldest and least snowy winter for many decades or perhaps since temperatures have been recorded. A huge catastrophe! :alzata di spalle:

In any case, even in North America the winter is much warmer than normal. I believe this graph speaks for itself

The easy part of the walk was here...

-7C and sunny. It's another cold day. Definitely peak winter right now. Not a huge amount of snow on the ground and nothing too extreme as far as cold but everything is disgusting and dirty. Yep, that is winter.

Low of -13C (wind chill of -18) this morning.

The warmspot was Sartine Island, BC at 10.8C.

Warmest low was Solander Island, BC at 7.1C

Overcast with intermittent light drizzle and rain showers.

Tuesday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 8 C, the low was 6 C.

Too cold for human habitation. Even my portable igloo jacket isn't enough. Definitely ready for the rainstorm on the way just for the mild temps.

I'm surprised you haven't been booking a flight.

We're going to Italy in May for 3 weeks including the last 6 days in the Dolomites (around May 20). Hoping that the walking/hiking trails will be open by then. I did see somewhere online that a popular hiking path has its access road only open in early June most years (and then it costs 30 euros to park) so hopefully the winter continues as it has so far.

We had about two weeks of real cold this winter. One in January, and the other one is about to end now. We didn’t get much snow either. There’s only two significant snowfalls that I can recall for which I used my snowblower. The current snow cover is thin and won’t last long once the temperature starts rising today.
