The federal finance is anything but great so it’s not like there’s been federal money for these types of things anyway.
Plus, we don’t know if the current federal liberal government will stay, so it doesn’t really mean much.
Third, imo, statements like the following may count as jurisdictional overreach:
Quote:
Besides funding these types of projects, all levels of government must make the hard decision to stop expanding the road network, he said. Adding more roads and new lanes on existing roads has proven to encourage more car use, which means more congestion, and more calls for road expansion, he said.

“Our government has made the decision to stop investing in new road infrastructure. Of course we will continue to be there for cities, provinces and territories to maintain the existing network, but there will be no more envelopes from the federal government to enlarge the road network. The analysis we have done is that the network is perfectly adequate to respond to the needs we have. And thanks to a mix of investment in active and public transit, and in territorial planning and densification, we can very well achieve our goals of economic, social and human development without more enlargement of the road network.

The surveys are out for the Functional Design of the Hwy 3 twinning project (McGillivray).

https://engagemb.ca/pth3

"Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 3 is a major link between the City of Winnipeg (McGillivray Boulevard) and PTH 100 and destinations south of PTH 100. Increasing traffic volumes, in part precipitated by commercial and industrial development along the corridor, means that twinning may need to be considered in the short to medium term. The purpose of this study is to develop a functional design and access management plan for twinning PTH 3. The plan will consider options for two main corridor alignments: (1) the existing alignment to connect to McGillivray Boulevard and (2) a realignment to connect to Bishop Grandin Boulevard (proposed Abinojii Mikanah). This functional design study will take approximately one-and-a-half years to complete. A functional design study is an early phase of the design process in which the road right-of-way and roadway layout are established based on projected travel patterns and demand. Functional designs are informed by both technical studies and public input and feedback throughout the process."

Ahhh yes, let's twin McGillivray so we can add 5 stop lights to it. There's that city planner logic. One proposal 10 lights from Kenaston to Perimeter. lol Gotta get our traffic lights per sqkm up

This is the province, not the city. What choice do they have to increase safety on this stretch of road than to add lights and twin?

bridges and/or interchanges at every intersection. Bodaggin can give them a sweet price.

We're planning to twin highways and for future expressways. Completely full of stop lights. Why even bother.

I guess there's no point in pretending.

I'm not saying overpasses everywhere, I'm saying overpasses where NEEDED. They're proposing 2-3 bridges to nowhere on Perimeter. Why? Wyper road? Seriously? Close the dead intersections and save the cash.

The same logic is happening with traffic lights. They're putting lights everywhere, therefore traffic doesn't flow. These planners don't understand their road hierarchy.

Push frequent intersections to lower and slower local and collector roads, so that higher arterial roads and freeways can have fewer intersection stoppages. Allowing them to flow faster and freer. This is common sense.

Keep in mind the ultimate stage is for 2048.. the city is going to continue to grow into what at the moment is "nowhere"

How about this for McGillivray Twinning. Here's 3 lights, not 6. Why can we come up with better plans in 2hrs than the people we're paying millions for? That's a serious problem.

Holy traffic lights… like don’t even bother building this if this is the final result lol this is the perfect opportunity for the province to do it right on day one with proper interchanges. They literally have a blank slate and template to work with here. their ultimate version of this will literally be Bishop Grandin in the present. … If there’s no interchanges, don’t build it..

Also, I think Hwy 1 and 16 should be converted to a Protected T-Intersection and Hwy 305 should be moved over 2 Miles East. That way, there'd be less conflict points with Hwy 1 and 16 and it could possibly make the intersection safer. Similar to Hwy 210 and Hwy 12
How this intersection is not serviced by a proper interchange by now boggles my mind.

It's the same reason that TCH through Valleyview (Kamloops) still has lots of lights.

I agree, it's a long overdue project. But there are some changes that should be made in the short term until it can be built. Unlike the Perimeter, Manitoba should have a long term plan set up to make the highway into a freeway standard.

^^^^This.

Hwy 3 or McGillvray needs to be twinned. There is more and more commercial activity up that way and with a high speed limit and With the PTH100/3 interchange coming, even more necessary.

The twinning should logically hook up to Abinoji Mikanoah (sp?).

Wilkes Ave west of SLP to PTH100 also is badly outdated for the volume of traffic.

Guys are you seriously dwelling on Bomberjet's sarcasm?

Everyone agrees McGillivray should be twinned. Bomberjet and everyone else is pointing out that adding 6 lights (like proposed by MB Gov), defeats the entire purpose of twinning.

We're saying, stop adding so many lights. And I proposed a twinning alternative which addressed exactly that.

I totally agree with your design. It should have 2 accesses from service roads, and Bishop Grandin and Will R Clement could have one light. Considering Hwy 3 (future McGillvary blvd) is an arterial road, 5 new stop lights is too many. The more stop lights can be good as it provides more access to the businesses, but still 5 new lights are absurd. That design would be perfect.

Maybe we can get one highway (100) free flowing first, to see if they actually can do it. So far, that looks like many years away.

If M.T.I. twins TCH around Falcon Lake and eliminates all the at-grade cross roads, that’s at least 10 KM of divided freeway in Manitoba.
