From what I read on Fb groups, it might be for connecting passenger on cruise ships but I think it could also be for connecting YQB passengers to Florida/sun destinations since overall it is the shortest connecting flight to most airports in Florida, especially during the low season. TS keeps a YQB-FLL flight on Saturdays only, during the summer/early autumn. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets extended in the winter as well while keeping a minimal AA presence in YQB on other days (PHL and ORD are seasonal at the moment).

Those times are terrible for cruise ship traffic. Workable going south for someone sailing on a Sunday and doing the smart thing to get there Saturday, but no one is connecting to a 9am flight on a Saturday morning out of Charlotte from any cruise port

You have it the other way around. The flight connects to cruise ships departing Quebec City.

Next year’s numbers will be interesting. Right now the trend is increased traffic for the big 4 airports, but decreasing traffic after that.

Pretty much every single airport in the country had positive growth in 2023, and unless one or two ULCC's fold shop, I don't see that changing in 2024. Travel demand is still as strong as ever.

In terms of Y.O.Y growth percentage, YXU, YOW, YWG and YXE lead the country in 2023. Now sure, part of that is because the major carriers were concentrating on beefing up their main hubs in 2021/2022, leaving the smaller airports behind, but we are clearly seeing those airports recuperate their lost traffic. It should be a similar story in 2024, unless, like I said, Flair or Lynx call it quits. And even if they do, it will only affect a handful airports in any meaningful way. The rest will be fine.

I don't think there are any cruise ships in the main lines that can get to Montreal anymore. Holland America used to have one that went down to Montreal but I'm not sure that class is in their fleet anymore. Even the smaller ships in the big lines now are too tall to get under the bridges in Quebec.

There are smaller ships in lesser known lines that can get into the Great Lakes, and even Viking, known for it's river cruises in Europe but having expanded into larger ships, has a ship that comes through the Welland Canal and into the inner lakes, not just Ontario.

Depending on the water level of the St. Lawrence River, several ships are blocked at the Laviolette Bridge and cannot go any further.

YYC already out with January 2024 Stats:

Domestic: 853,940 +5.0%
Transborder: 265,893 +19.4%

January Total: 1,319,703 +7.63%

Its overall still below 2019 levels with domestic still not back to where it was. But up from last year. Transborder/International are both up. Non-US international continues to be the biggest gainer.
