Andlauer interview in French with 104.7 Outaouais. They talk about losing out on Roy, the Downtown arena, the importance of including the francophone population and more. Not a whole lot of new information, but the host makes quite a few assumptions.

Sutcliffe is at it again. He's now ready to waste City resources on his vendetta against the NCC. He wants the City to officially come up with a couple options Downtown. I'm sure the Sens want to abandon LeBreton AGAIN after investing millions on negotiations and planning, and then spend the equivalent of an NHL arena just on demolishing Federal Buildings that are not for sale. That checks-out.

Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe on Senators arena: ‘There’s got to be a way to do it downtown’

By Ian Mendes, The Athletic
Feb 1, 2024

Mark Sutcliffe wants to make it clear that LeBreton Flats is a suitable location to house an NHL arena for the Ottawa Senators.

As part of an extended conversation with The Athletic earlier this week, the Ottawa mayor was asked about the club recently extending its window to negotiate with the National Capital Commission (NCC) to build a new arena on that parcel of land.

“The fact they have more time is a good thing,” Sutcliffe said. “LeBreton is a viable option and I’ve always said that for many fans, that will be preferable.”

For my own sanity, I think I need to stop listening to the Mayor.

Hopefully the Sens agree. They might need to wait until he's out before requesting a funding partnership with the City. He will not be open to a City contribution if they choose LeBreton. Passive-aggressive as hell that guy.

Exactly. This is clearly the stage where you want to blue sky options that may or may not be viable within the next 20 years.

The QED was maybe brilliant politics but this just seems unhinged. That said Nussbaum is dead man walking if he's seen as on the liberal side of a battle with Sutcliffe when the new Sheriff comes to town in 18 months.

I can't help but think Sutcliffe's talk about a "true" downtown option is simply a ploy to keep the Senators in Kanata. Promise up a parcel of downtown land that may or may not be viable and may or may not even be vacated in the next decade while the Lebreton ship sails by.

This guy lives and breathes suburban / rural residents, seems like every IG post/story I see from him is at some rural get together surrounded by senior citizens and guys wearing high viz jackets.

Leafs, and it seems pretty much anyone who's not a Sens fan, flipped out when Ridley Greig scored an empty net slap shot goal. Leafs' Morgan Rielly responded with a hit to the head.

Greig didn't even celebrate the goal in anyway. I'm not sure what the big deal was.

But anyone, lot of non Sens fans defending the dirty hit to the head.

Slap shot empty net = classless and disgraceful
Hit to the head in response = well done

TBH I'm seeing a lot of non leafs fans grilling Reilly on the crosscheck, and loving what Greig did, especially on reddit.

Greig is doing what his job is and its hilarious. He will single handedly bring the rivalry back to what is was. I'm sure if he gets the opportunity to take a — like that on an empty net against the leafs or even the habs he will.

It was a classless, disrespectful move by Greig. One that I'm fine with, given the rivalry that Ottawa feels with Toronto, and an exclamation point on a good victory. Also not concerned with Reilly's original intent in response. Of course he got careless and let his stick go up Greig's shoulder pads into his head so Reilly has to suffer the punishment, which will be well deserved. And no one on the Leafs and I bet not many on Ottawa, think less of Reilly for reacting that way, no matter what they might say publicly about it. This is the nature of team sports, showboat and the other team will come after you in one way or another.

It was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in recent memory, and it couldn’t have happened against a better opponent. People defending the nature of the attack after need therapy.

On the fence about it. On one hand, great entertainment, on the other hand, this will fire up the Leafs for the future games against Ottawa and points against them won't be easy anymore.

I absolutely loved the goal! It's exactly on-brand for Rids and gave the Leafs faithful exactly what they deserved. Anyone supporting Rielly's response clearly watches too much UFC. I haven't enjoyed online Sens-Leafs banter this much since.....

Reilly a POS, because the hit went exactly where he intended.

Its not hard to not hit the head on a check where the person your hitting doesn't see you coming.

But alas, Leafs fans are leafs fans.

Yup, pretty much this. If you don't want to get "taunted" don't lose. The Leafs bring the embarrassment to themselves. And for Sportsnet clowns like Simpson, Bieksa and Botterill to call Greig's move "classless," while defending Rielly's crosscheck to the head, is just despicable. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising considering their salaries are paid by the same folks who own the Leafs, hence "Leafsnet." Maybe the most laughable part of their segment is when Ron Maclean tried to defend Rielly's integrity by showing a clip of his teammate yelling "Morgan!" when calling for a pass. Maclean goes, "See? They call him by first name!". That was the entire clip... I wish I was joking.

Luckily, apart from Leafs fans, Leafsnet, and old-timer roid-ragers with small peepee syndrome, people seem to be condemning Rielly pretty universally. And with good reason - one action involves shooting a puck at a net really hard and another involves a blindside crosscheck to the face on an unsuspecting player. No room for that garbage in hockey. And the best part is, Leafs fans are saying "Bet Greig learned his lesson, he won't do that again"... well I can almost guarantee Greig would do it again without hesitation, given his style as an agitator (which he's clearly effective at).

If the leafs can't get fired up enough about a playoff series to play like they care, doubt Greig's actions have any effect at all. Besides, we don't play them again until next season, we've already taken this year's season series 3-1.
