Gee, it would be nice if the union could do something about bad actors scuttling their reputation. I hear all the kids chattering about how the unions are so great.

I could be wrong, but did the drivers' association ask the government to facilitate more training, or ask for something along those lines?

Cool, wider sidewalks will be a huge improvement to the area.

I love it. Most of the customers at the businesses in Davie Village aren't driving anyways, and the sidewalks could sorely use some extra breathing room.

Yeah, there hasn't been a lot of redevelopment along that stretch which would allow a wider sidewalk.
The sidewalk width is like the Robson St. pinch points at Cafe Crepe (is it still there?) and The Manhatten Apartments.

Looked at another way, nobody's driving there because there isn't anything worth driving to from outside the area. The retail/restaurant offering on Davie is sad.

As a West Ender, I think that's a positive. Less outside car traffic coming in, and makes for the thousands of residents walking to and around Davie more pleasant.

My eye for all three street improvements is getting those bus lines running more efficiently.

Make sure to hit up one of the 3 open houses they have! Speaking to staff in person goes a long way.

Strong YMMV on this one, there's plenty of places to draw people from outside the neighbourhood: Cazba, Red Umbrella, Basil (Italian), Basil (Thai), and the one remaining Denny's with actual service, for example.

More likely that they're walking across the bridge or taking the bus rather than blowing money on gas and parking.

All you need now is a SkyTrain extension.

There's nothing wrong with a neighbourhood retail strip catering primarily to the neighbourhood!
That was the fallacy of Cambie Village.
They relied so heavily on outside customers that they all suffered during Canada Line construction.

Why were pro-Hamas protestors blocking the Burrard Street bridge during last evening's commute? What is the connection?

You seem confused. There was a large protest opposing the Israeli occupation of Gaza, and particular it's threat to attack Rafah, where over a million Palestinians have taken refuge. Can you post any (un doctored) pictures of pro-Hamas signs?

It wasn't the only protest of its kind, there were others around the world, including in London and Washington.

Then do it in front of the Israeli consulate. There's zero connection to the Burrard Bridge.

Crazy how support for one side in a conflict that's been going on for hundreds of years gets enough support in Vancouver to shut down the Burrard bridge, during the evening commute. Yet protests over local issues (i.e. housing affordability/zoning/etc.) get meager turn outs...

I really don't want to weigh too much into this discussion and it wasn't this particular protest, but a lot of the protests are a little uneasy to me. This one in October had a couple of banners flying the "from the river to the sea" slogan.
